ck2k01
also will i be able to overclock the pentium 4 1.8a with the asus P4S533 mobo. if so, how high, and how do u do it (i wanna hit 2 ghz for braggin rights to friends :))?
Sick
A mid-tower case is "average" size, about the size of a Dell or Gateway case, if not a little bit bigger. Mine's a mid-tower ATX and it's 18" tall. I say if you get a full-tower case like you're wanting, make sure that thing's aluminum! My friend got a normal full-tower and gah, that's a pain in the butt to move around. The full-tower might be good if you're overclocking, since it's supposed to get better air circulation. I'd make sure you get some good case fans, as well as nice CPU fan, like the Thermaltake Volcano 7 or 7+. I got my 7+ for around 35 dollars, which I didn't think was too expensive. Hope this helps! :)

ck2k01
so u just change those settings in the bios?
zivan56
Yes, or if you have a program like Fuzzylogic (which comes with MSI mobo's) you can change the FSB in the program (so it only affects Windows). Or you can also change it in the bios.
ck2k01
how high can you go, and whats the recommend speed to overclock? and on the video card, is it worth upgradin to the 128mb card or just stay with the 64mb card?
zivan56
Well 2.0 Ghz could be achieved with the stock fan, but for higher you need to get a different heatsink/cooler possibly. I can get to 111.11 easily with only 2*C difference in temps. Make sure you have somthing like arctive silver or some other paste to transfer heat better. The highest you can go is dependant of the hardware and components.
ck2k01
wat happens if it try to go to high for my hardware, and do i really need other glue than the one packaged with the card?
zivan56
If you go too high your computer will not post, and you will have to clear the CMOS via a jumper on the mobo. You dont need any glue, but you need a heat transfer compound, you can use the one that comes with the processor, it is probably the same thing. ck2k01
I heard that when u overclock a processor, in my case a Pentium 4, it overheats alot easier. Is there any extra precaution i can take when i build my PC? such as a extra fan or something along those lines..................any reccomendations will help
StOnD
Yes it is true that heat is a bigger problem when you overclock. The best thing you can do in that case is make sure to have thermal paste and a good CPU heatsink/fan combo. I recommend the Swiftech MCX-478 for overclockers. Also be sure that you case is well vented and that you have intake and exhaust fans to keep internal system temperature low.
zivan56
I would get 2 case fans, I have 5 altogether (video card, chipset, case, cpu, power supply) Amazingly the hottest thing in my system is the power supply, it is 36*C. Dont worry about noise, my AMD k6-2 has a 5000RPM fan which is more louder than all the fans on my new rig combined.

DeathLace
I wanna build my own comp, but I know I'll screw it up and it won't work, or for some reason if it does, it'll overheat because my cooling system will suck.
