Me!!!!!! Pretty packaging forever! lol

But seriously, the worst thing you could ever do is buy an OEM motherboard.

OEMs are not really that good; especially if you already own an OS and your games. My dad recently purchased a Gateway 700S fully loaded, but it came with so much junk software preloaded, and it was registered to "Registered Owner" so he couldn't even put his own name in when completing the Windows XP setup. Plus, the Start Menu>Programs was like 2 feet long with all kinds of software, most of it he would never use. To top it off, he has an 80 GB drive in one big partition. I asked the guy at the Gateway store if they were ordered from the factory would they partition the disk drive out into separate volumes if requested. He said 'no'. That stinks; who wants an 80 GB volume?

Im going to purchase the parts soon, but me and my friend are having some last minute worries. Would it be better to get the AMD ATHLON XP 2200+/266 FSB PROCESSOR CPU - OEM. Would this be a good mobo for it - SHUTTLE AK31A AMD K7 VIA APOLLO KT266A DDR SOCKET A ATX MOTHERBOARDOr should I just stick with the P4.18 and overclock it. (Also my mobo says it does 1.8-2.2, so does that mean I cant overlcock to 2.4? Cas i cant find one that supports 2.4) And even though people told me AMD is way cheaper, I prices em out and they seem to be bout the same. What are your guys suggestions?

It does not matter what speed the mobo supports if your are overclocking, just make sure that the mobo supports the CPU at is normal speed. The new Athlon XP's do not overclock very well since the new core was introduced, and most people can barely get to 1.9GHz (The 2200+ is actually 1.8Ghz) with it (or at least thats what many review sites claim). But if you want a cheaper pc, it is definately the way to go, just make sure you get a good cooler (since the ones for Athlon XP are ver loud)
