Make me switch to Opera again

Recommended Posts

I was an ardent & die-hard fan of opera since version 5.0 uptil the version 8.0

Recently i started using firefox just for a change. I came to know about some good extension's like adblock, flashblock, popupsmustdie 1.0 and started liking it a lot.

Slowly but gradually i got my bookmarks imported to FF and then i realized that i hardly use opera anymore.

I would like to know if there is any adblock script that can work with Opera 8.02 .... i can block the flash by removing the C:\Program Files\Opera\program\plugins\NPSWF32.dll

and opera has a good pop-up blocker too.

I really want to change back to opera once again but adblock is the only thing thats keeping me stick with FF at the moment.

A good adblock by list and i ready to join the opera party once again

Well, it depends. If you want the same interface as AdBlock, you pretty much have to buy AdMuncher.

Otherwise there are a few good alternatives that work with Opera. There is the perennial master - The Proxomitron. There is the Opera AdBlocker from the Opera forum, also Opera Tools.

There is also the pac proxy zapper that zzzz keeps posting about (either here or on BBR, not sure).

Outpost or ZA firewall also do a decent job blocking ads - and there are the hosts file solutions.

To the thread starter,

May I ask why you want to switch if Firefox has the functions you want to use?

Please don't mistaken my question as evidence that I am a fanboy of any kind... the truth is I'm typing this from Opera myself. I am using Opera because it has the features I want to use. Adblock isn't important to me. If it was, however, you can bet I'd install Firefox and start using that.

I'm curious as to why you want to switch software when you are already using software that meets your needs.

Take care

Its just that i have been used to browsing with Opera that i feel the need to come back to it. I am no fan-boy of either but yes i do hate IE ( i have blocked IEXPLORE.exe from opening)

The bookmark in Opera is great and i personally feel that its much faster than FF ( FF is right now faster because of adblock blocking out the AD )

The download transfer in OPERA is much better with PAUSE/RESUME support

The enable/disable images can be configured with each page i visit ( BLOCK IMAGES in case the page contains too much of graphic images i am not interested in )

Right click bookmark in opera i generally use Open page/s in background window and i open lottsa them especially when visiting forums. But in FF its open in tabs and if choose the next bookmark to open in tab it reuses the existing tab so the previous page will not open.

There is the perennial master - The Proxomitron. There is the Opera AdBlocker from the Opera forum, also Opera Tools.

Could you give me a few links to follow. Thanks
