Vista Beta 1 upgradeable to Vista beta 2?

Recommended Posts

Not fully sure yet... but i wouldn't really do it.. Since it is beta software and most of them time they say uninstall the old beta before installing a new build.

but WINDOWS is not a software, its an OS. microsoft cant be that cold to users let em uninstall beta 1 and install beta 2. And in fact, many people uses vista as a primary system, if they upgrade beta 1 to beta 2 with out upgrade function, it must pizzed off many users :D

Yes, you should be able to upgrade from Beta 1 to Beta 2  Though it's always recommended to use a clean install, you might come across some interesting bugs to report (Y)

Those people are simply unwise. Microsoft is giving it out to testers/developers to test it and get a sense of how the internals work - NOT use it on their primary machine that does daily tasks.

True; it is. But don't get so used to the OS that you become reliant on it.

There's a time for that kind of testing, and it really isn't now. Wait for the RC's.

Any program with bugs or glitches needs to be uninstalled before installing a fresh copy of the next upgraded version. It decreases the chances of reproducing those same bugs and creating further errors. The only time you would upgrade would be a final, very stable product, such as the Nero products.

Windows is software.

An OS is a form of software.

Its always recommended that you do a fresh install for each beta.

Who ever uses Vista Beta's as a primary is stupid.

It's still very buggy. Don't say its not until you try it. You'll see ;)

well Vista beta 1 did support upgrading from previous versions of Longhorn alphas (mainly some of the more recent builds like the WinHEC i think)...

so it's not entirely impossible...

remember Whistler Beta 1 before the RCs came out?

I would do whatever microsoft suggests at the time of the beta 2 release. If they are suggesting people upgrade so they can work out those bugs then go for it, otherwise I would probably just clean install (like they normally...in my experience...want you too)

HAH! Let's see you say the same thing we you're writting mission critical paper and Vista crahses...than you'd have a WHOLE different story..

but anyways, you SHOULD be able to upgrade but clean install is ALWAYS recommanded..
