M.F.D.K
i was just wondering will it be possible to upgrade from Windows Vista Beta 1 to the second beta or only as a fresh copy....
Sn4k36
Not fully sure yet... but i wouldn't really do it.. Since it is beta software and most of them time they say uninstall the old beta before installing a new build.

And in fact, many people uses vista as a primary system, if they upgrade beta 1 to beta 2 with out upgrade function, it must pizzed off many users :D
John Veteran Posted September 3, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 3, 2005 Yes, you should be able to upgrade from Beta 1 to Beta 2  Though it's always recommended to use a clean install, you might come across some interesting bugs to report (Y)
John Veteran Posted September 3, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 3, 2005 And in fact, many people uses vista as a primary system, if they upgrade beta 1 to beta 2 with out upgrade function, it must pizzed off many users :D 586473031 Those people are simply unwise. Microsoft is giving it out to testers/developers to test it and get a sense of how the internals work - NOT use it on their primary machine that does daily tasks. But don't get so used to the OS that you become reliant on it.
BananaMan
hehe :D well by doing daily tasks i belive thats the way to find the most bugs 586473042 There's a time for that kind of testing, and it really isn't now. Wait for the RC's.
cropcircles
Way too many bugs in beta 1 to upgrade to 2. I doubt beta 2 will have the option to upgrade from 1 anyway.
yudi_lks
Better uninstall and install the new beta version
LovingU
it is IMPOSSIBLE to upgrade from beta1 to beta2, fresh installation is a must
noPCtoday
it is IMPOSSIBLE to upgrade from beta1 to beta2,fresh installation is a must 586473227 why?
cropcircles
Any program with bugs or glitches needs to be uninstalled before installing a fresh copy of the next upgraded version. It decreases the chances of reproducing those same bugs and creating further errors. The only time you would upgrade would be a final, very stable product, such as the Nero products. amrinders87
I would just do a clean install. Whenever major updates like Service Packs come out, I always do a clean install.
TheNay
Its always recommended that you do a fresh install for each beta. Who ever uses Vista Beta's as a primary is stupid. It's still very buggy. Don't say its not until you try it. You'll see ;)
ikyouCrow
well Vista beta 1 did support upgrading from previous versions of Longhorn alphas (mainly some of the more recent builds like the WinHEC i think)... so it's not entirely impossible... remember Whistler Beta 1 before the RCs came out? Pox
:o john double posted [/offtopic] i think doing a clean install would be a better idea, its not like just repairing XP Pro to XP Pro, its actually a different OS, almost.

Commodore Max
Clean install. This is beta software, so the upgrade might not work too good ...
djesteban
I would do a clean install for sure... but yeah... the BETA 2 will probably offer you an option to upgrade if you want
thebigl3bowski
I would do whatever microsoft suggests at the time of the beta 2 release. If they are suggesting people upgrade so they can work out those bugs then go for it, otherwise I would probably just clean install (like they normally...in my experience...want you too)
NeoXY
hehe :D well by doing daily tasks i belive thats the way to find the most bugs 586473042 HAH! Let's see you say the same thing we you're writting mission critical paper and Vista crahses...than you'd have a WHOLE different story.. but anyways, you SHOULD be able to upgrade but clean install is ALWAYS recommanded..
xxdesmus
I would bet a significant amount of money it's going to have to be a clean install, that seems to be how it always has been in the past at least
