but as you can see in the Beta 2 screenshots, the special alt-tab effect is back. and in my opinion, it is a lot more innovative than Expos?

How can it be more innovative when in effect they're doing the same thing; showing you all of the windows on your desktop in an easily accessible way? Just because one tiles them side by side and the other one stacks them, doesn't mean that they're two wholly different concepts.

Its nice that Windows users are finally getting something thats as useful as this idea really is in everyday use though. Everytime I go back to use my PC for something, I find myself trying to use Expos? to select a window. This can only make migration between platforms easier and more consistent for the end user.

I'm curious how the idea of a stack will hold up when there's largeb> amount of windows though. Surely they'll just show a smaller sliver of each one, which will decrease the usability?

you know what would be interesting?

if:

1) drag and drop was supported (start dragging, call it up, drag over a window and that window would animate to the top so you could drop stuff into it

2) clicking was supported (alt+tab to that thing, then click on the window, instead of pressing tab multiple times - and sometimes passing the window, making it needed for us to alt+shift+tab back one step)

but yeh, i like that effect :)

they could have somethnig akin to expos? too:whistle::

They have the same function but they are making the windows 3D instead of having miniatures and whats on the miniatures is hard too see clearly. Lets say you have two notepad windows and have different content on eah and if you have miniatures, its hard to distinguish between the two when switching via alt-tab.

Expos? actually does both of those already. The first is called springloaded folders and I struggle without it. The second is pretty much the whole point behind the idea.

Actually, windows in Expos? are 3D too. The system basically renders a square using OpenGL, and then applies that window as a texture to it. Thats why the thing is so smooth. As for the miniatures thing, it is hard to distinguish when they're tiny, but you always have the option of pressing F10 instead of F9. F10 shows just the windows for the application you're using, instead of all of them. And regardless, it shows you the title of the window when you mouse over it anyway.

I'm not trying to slate this, or blast it out for being unoriginal, just educate some people a little.

I wouldn't care if they ripped off Expos? directly; its such a needed feature to work in a true multi-document interface, tnot including it would have been incredibly stupid on Microsoft's part. I'm just curious as to how effective this system will be without a 'This application only' or 'Clear all applications' option.
