Windows Vista AC97 Problem

I have Vista and AC97 sound card onboard but when i install the drivers the rear speakers and the subwoofer don't work. from the sound effect manager i cannot choose to run the rear speakers and the subwoofer. has anyone the same problem and is there a fix for it.

pp an year ago when i installed 4074 there was the same problem but when i installed the newest drivers it was fixed.

pp now i'm using 3.76

did you disable onboard sound in your bios? i had a sound blaster card installed (couldnt get it to get sound) finally took it out, went back to onboard sound,w asnt working, then i relized i had to turn back on the onboard sound (it was disabled) i turned it on and boom, the drivers installed without a problem...sound couldnt be better (for onboard sound that is)

Its usually DEL or F8 or something when the computer boots (before Windows loads)

That happened in one of my old computers and I know I never disabled it. For like two years, my computer didn't have sound. I tried everything and I finally got old enough to keep the right part of the BIOs. Always a good thing to check.

i get a bluememory dumping screen... i disabled the driver for AC97 and it hasnt crashed yet .... on beta 1. ..... i had a problem on beta 2(latest build) aswell and cudnt sort it out so i reinstalled beta 1 again

i also have the same problem with my latest vista 5219, the soundcard does not work eventou i have installed the new ac97 beta driver from www.realtek.com and i have jus send an email to Realtek company, hopefully they can develope a new driver for Vista

I've got an AC97 on Vista 5219 as well - mind you it works - but its choppy as hell. Not useable at all with Aero Glass enabled - with it all turned off (Best Performance) its not as bad - but still chops under load.

hi, i jus found out a way to slove this problem, Download Realtek AC97 WHQL ver3.76a (16.8MB) from internet. at MS Vista, change the compatibility to windows xp and run it. after install finish, restart ur computer n here u go, the soundcard works fine on vista...
