MxRobbo
my maxtor 7200rpm hdd isnt reading at an ata of 100, and i know it has the possibility to, i bought it last year so its relatively new, and i can tell a performance decrease when i copy files and such, could it possibly be my ata cables or something that wont go at ata 100, rite now its performing at ata 66 and its sort of makin me angry, ive looked around in the bios but i couldnt find anything to modify the settings, and my friend with the same setup has his reading at ata100 which it detected automatically, any help would be apriciated, here's my setup amd 1.2 cpu abit kg7 raid (bios version 9m) 256mb micron ddr ram maxtor 40gb 7200rpm ibm 20gb 5400rpm could it be since my ibm drive is sort of old and its slowing it down? even though its not on the same ide cable? devobitch
two things to check are both drives on the same channel if one drive is slower it may slow the other down so if one is ata 33 and other is ata100 they will work at ata33 (skip this i just saw u said different channels) make sure u are useing a ata100 cable (ie a 80 pin one) and make sure dma is check in device manager

I have 2 ata-100 drives now but before i had a PIO 4 drive on here and it didn't slow down my maxtor 40GB ata-100 7200RPM drive one bit. The PIO 4 drive was slave the the ATA-100 drive so don't say stuff you know nothing about. HEHE>.. :) You drive at ATA-66 wont run much faster at ata-100 so don't think they will :) Check your cables tho and check you drivers. I use the default drivers for everything for my MOBO (if it's available) and i get full speeds outta everything.

Roger H. Veteran Posted July 10, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 10, 2002 click the plus beside IDE/ATAPI Controllers then the right click the PRIMARY IDE Channel and choose properties then go to the ADVANCED TAB and look. It should say UDMA 4 or 5 (ata-66 or ata-100) so look and post back.

JodyWatts
You can cut and paste this into notepad and save it as ATA100.REG ... then double click it to import it into the registry. --- Begin cut here --- REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}] "EnableUDMA100"=dword:00000001 --- end cut here--- *Note - ALL text between (and including) the brackets [] should be on one line (you might have to turn off wordwrap) and all text between (and including) the quotes "" should be on the 3rd line. I do agree with SHoTTa35 ... the drive won't seem that much faster (you probably won't even notice a difference) between ATA66 and ATA100
