P4!!!!!!!!!

I can't stress this point. Besides, AMDs r supposedly made in sweatshops, although I have yet to confirm this rumor, they are for a fact made in small countries like that.

I have all P4's and I am happy as can be

AMD far surpasses Intel in every way. Intel is too into L2 cache these days, its good, but not worth it if you ask me. Athlon XP all the way!!

And AMD comes out on top of it, i wonder why..*cough* Quanti-speed?*cough*

we have to admit that intel right now is winning in terms of pure speed (2200+ vs p4 2533mhz), but in lowers speeds, amd wins. that's simple. athlon xp does more job in each clock cicle, that's the reason that amd adopted the 1800+ (and so on) instead of the real clock speed (1533mhz). pure velocity isn't everything. ;)

i would go for ... P4 .. Amd yeah i have 1 a 1.33ghz its nice and i have a P4 1.6... but i have to say less people have problems with Pentiums in the long run than AMD...

:ninja: but the choice is urs lol

And do you think they should still be that way? P4's are INCREDIBLY ineffecient in terms of IPC and such factors.

Also, consider price! You can overlock a P4, but for the same price, you can get an AMD designed to run at the ame speed! Why would you want to risk overheating a P4 when you can run an AMD comfortably at the same speed and price?

and you think I'm on crack?

:D

AMD wins HANDS DOWN

I don't know the exact technical differences between the chips but at work we design and deploy servers and these all use pentiums as they've a reputation for dependability.

At home I choose an AMD as it's cheaper and has a good reputation for performance, and after having an 1800+ for a few months I can say it is an excellent chip that's never let me down yet.

what kind of problems do they have? the cpu runs away? does it say "i don't wont work?" Does it appear a LSOD (lazy screen of death?) :ponder: :p

really, what kind o problems do they have? :ponder:

Between those two go for AMD, its a better deal at that speed. However if you can spend more and get one of the new P4's with 533bus, that would be better. At this speed though, you really cant go wrong with AMD. Just be sure you get a decent motherboard. Don't skimp in that department. I'm a big fan of gigabyte motherboards personally, but there are a lot of other great motherboards out there. Do your research on that part too, before you purchase.

I've built couple computers in my life and i've always recommended AMD PCs to people. This one lady said the AMD 1800+ system i built her is faster than the 2Ghz system she bought from DELL and she's actually getting one more for her son since it was so cheap. She paid $1800 for her dell system and she bought that system from me for $600 and actually wanted to give me a few extra hundred cuz she was so happy with it. She now gave her husband the P4 2.0Ghz and uses the AMD 1800+ i gave her cuz she says it runs so much faster.

If you want i can give you her number (she's married with kids you horny devils and she's about 44) and you can ask her how happy she is. She says if i ever need her testimonial i can give people her number cuz she just love talking about how happy the computer has made her and she wish she never went to Dell in the first place. She now recommends me to her friends and that's how i got the money i got yesterday :) hehe....

Okay I've used them both and here's my opinion.

AMD: If your stapped for cash but still want great performance go with the AMD. As far as drawbacks go they are louder (bigger fans) and the chipsets are sometimes a little buggy at first.

Intel: Great if you have a little more cash. Fast, stable and very quite. The chipsets tend to be a little more stable in my experience also.

It all depends on what you consider important. Most people cannot tell the performance difference between the two at similiar speeds in day to day tasks.

That being said I'm starting to use more Intel processors because I'm tired of listining to my loud ass AMD fan :)

like someone said a couple posts ago, whatever you choose, don't skimp on the mobo. the mobo is where you can easily run into problems, not the processor.

A CPU made in a sweatshop? That's a good one
