gandolas
the mobo is where you can easily run into problems, not the processor. were is the real problem. people buy a good processor (amd) and a good graphic card, and buy a cheap mobo. that's the real problem of some instability of "amd inside" computers. ;)
samo123_uk
AMD is far better than Intel. Why? Because Intel Allways put those crappy built in graphics card in the motherboard which stuff things up. (dunno if they still put em in P4's) An AMD 1.6 is just as fast as a P4 2.0 or near abouts. So AMD cpu's are a faster. And those blue men are freaky :x

t0aster_uk
was wondering the same myself, checked into all avenues and at the end of the day went with the P4 1.8a why? got sick of my old system (amd athlon 700 running at 1ghz) making such a racket that i couldnt sleep, heres what u do buy a 1.8a and an abit bd7-ii and a nice stick of samsung pc2700 ram run the fsb at 133 and the memory at a 3:4 ratio, the bd7-ii will even let you lock the pci/agp freq. at 33/66 , no matter what the front side is at result = 2.4 ghz , no hotter than when running at 1.8 , quiet as a mouse even using the stock cooler and yer mem is running at 354 mhz, this system will sh*t on many other systems, and anything amd can pull out of their sleeves. in fact when the next bios update is released which should give a 4:5 mem ratio, you are looking at running fsb at 150mhz =mem at 350 mhz and the processor at 2.7 an easy overclock for the chip, spec if you add the (still whisper quiet) alpha cooler and vid pin the chip... like i say i was an amd guy but they need to pull their fingers out of their asses... mart3ll
AMD 1800XP all the way... Check it out with SiSoft Sandra when you get it and you'll see its benchmarks surpass a P4 2Ghz. Have had mine for a while and is blazing fast. I haven't had an Intel since my PII233. Why pay more for less? :p
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted July 10, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 10, 2002 loud fans? don't make me laugh. wait...too late... HAHAHAHAHAHA anyhoo, http://www.plycon.com/slk800.htm get one of those, they accept 80mm fans. which is good mind you because larger fans = more air moved faster, and quieter operation. I've got an 8000RPM Delta in my machine that does about 54db of noise, so I shouldn't talk... But I'm putting one of those babies on this fall, so the noise should drop a lot :D
