cd audio digital/analog?

Recommended Posts

i've been wondering about the connections in the back of a cdrom. i usually see that there's an analog connection from the cdrom to the mobo or soundcard.

my question is what's the digital connection there for? i've never seen it used. where can i get this cable? is it better than the analog ?

thanks for fielding my inquiries. :)

on my sound card i have both an analogue and digital cd connector, and i got the wire with my sound card i think,

to be honest im not sure if it ever uses it, enabling digital out in media player gets it the same way as data, not using that cable,

probally most people cant tell the difference anyway:P

i always have a little delay when using digital, is this normal?

like skipping between tracks, or moving the position slider, it takes a sec for the music to start.

u should get that with both analogue and digital connectors, cause a normal track is about 50meg so it taks a second for the laser to be moved to the right bit, just like on ur hi fi, althoguht with drives getting faster the delay should not be noticable anymore, depends on the speed of ur drive, and the cach size

it's better to just use the IDE cable for digital audio. The cables aren't necessary if your CDrom can output digital audio which more than likely it could unless it's from like 1995 or something

thanks spike232 and SHoTTa35. i thought it would be special, but i guess they keep it there to be backwards compatible or something.

thanks again. :)
