AbandonedTrolley
Try looking through everything on the settings. Is it possible for Opera to open a new tab, when I enter a new address in a tab thats already being used. This was done in Firefox using the Tab Browser plug-in and found it handy that I didn't have to create a new tab before entering the new address as it did that for me when I hit return? :)
d3bruts1d
As far as typing in an address and making it automatically open a new tab, there isn't a way to do that AFAIK. You can press Ctrl + N to open a new tab, and the curser will be in the address box.... I know it's not exactly what you are after, but it is a similar result. You can assign any key to do the same thing by giving it the New page | Go to page action.... I changed F2 to do this on my system.

As for the original posted, sorry there is no way of doing what you want.
