I'm prejudice, but I rarely discriminate.

You write like a decent bloke, discriminating is a big problem in my County, it's something that I think is irritating.

Glad to see you're honest too :)

ElectricDemon: Nail on the head. Prejudice is all well and good, negative discrimination is it's outward manifestation and what causes problems.

fred666: Well, we evolved to not die from the cake example I made.  Eventually you would HAVE to tend towards green cakes.

leesmithg:  OK, you may well be prejudiced, but not ALL prejudices are negative.  Racism is a manifestation of a reaction to a prejudice, not a prejudice itself.

Nah you quoted prejudice='s racism, thats not right, I have come across call them black if you wish, I prefer brown that have been complete and utter pieces of &*^%, and some Asian orientated people also and plenty of White people who I wish were never born, but, however I will not judge a black, asian or another white person on a bad experience from others, this is why I can't except prejudice ='s racism.

That may be the natural way of things but we humans are rational animals than can "out-think" our evolutionary intelligence.

Yes, we are supposed to be the highest forms of life known, you are correct in your statement.

(thought we are mammals really).

It is correct to say that humans are animals just as it is correct to say that humans are mammals.

Mammals are part of the animal kingdom. All mammals are animals but all animals are not mammals.

Nah you quoted prejudice='s racism

I did NOT!!! I said "Prejudice != Racism". Go back, re-read it. != means NOT EQUALS. I think we are arguing the same point - lol ;)

Fred666: True, we can think outside our evolutionary, but and that is where we start not ACTING upon our prejudices, but I believe we still have them.

Oh and mammals are animals. Animals is a kind of "catch all" I believe.

I think that after a certain amount of time, your rational beliefs compelely overide any evolutionary intelligence (instincts). A child raised in the correct environment would not be prejudiced.

My (nearly) five year old have never indicated any prejudices. He has always been exposed to kids with different skin colour. I have explained racism/prejudice/stereotypes to him but I used eye and hair colour as examples rather than skin colour or country of origin.

Good point, using a kid as a subject.

Example: Why do kids like ladybirds but not flies? Only because we prejudice them against flies I suppose.

I guess it's just that we don't live in a Utopian society and it's easier to put our prejudices into action and label people.

Talk to them?

I think we were talking about skin colour and not just general appearance.

If you see a 6'6 black guy, you are more than likely going to think he plays basketball. This has happened to me countless times. I have NEVER come in contact with anyone that DIDNT think I played basketball. And NO ONE thinks I am a techie...

I just asked my co-workers and they all admit to being prejudiced...

I asked my manager also. If someone comes in here with thier pants to the knees and asked for a job, would you give them the job? Or the nicely dressed fellow in glasses sitting next to him? Based on appearance alone...

What would YOU do?

Your example of giving a job is invalid. Because the guy in the pants to the knees clearly has no idea how to fit into a professional environment.

But i do take your meaning.

I think everyone is to a certain extent, especially the older you get. The reason is that as you gain experience and knowledge of who people are and how they are, you are no longer naive, and therefore question, distrust, and generally create a pre-conception about people or groups.

Read my first post in this thread. If this thread is about skin colour then I do not think I am prejudiced. If we are talking about socio-economic status then that is a different story.

I might think a 6'6" guy is a basketball player but that would have little to do with his skin colour. In fact, I've known a one or two guys that were that tall and I'm sure I've said something like "You should be a basketball player". They were not black.

I'm prejudiced against everyone for every reason (race/intellectual capacity/age/sex/class/clothing/music etc etc etc etc etc.) I could try and make some excuse for it, be it the media or whatever, but taking into account i have a mind of my own, i can't. Bye bye.

Not really invalid. I wear baggy jeans and durags. And I have seen people go to job interviews like that. I personally would not but i have seen it. Now some people are just so comfortable, they wear whatever they want. I have such a way with people that I can wear whatever I want when ever I want. They know I am a literal genius. (IQ of 142 :D) But when i first got the job, they thought I was some hip-hop kid that knew nothing and was just looking for a job for quick cash. Now I have the respect of everyone. So I didnt know how to fit into a professional environment, but my intelligence shows.

I read the 1st post. your a snob...:p

I used the skin color because it's me, I get that all the time. And by saying that you would think he is a basketball player, you admitted to being prejudiced. You THINK he might be because of his height. Prejudice is not about skin color...

Re-read you first post in this thread. It was clear to me that you were asking about racial prejudices. Your three examples were whites, asians and Mexicans.

My point was that you can use your noodle to decide what you are prejudicial about.

I don't think that being prejudicial about skin colour is all that effective or accurate.

Yea, i realized that and i meant to fix it but I am at work and I am getting calls back to back. I put people on hold to respond to posts.:D:D I was basically running on "fumes" if you will of the conversation I was having at work. Those were the examples people gave and I agreed. They are racial so I guess we can throw that in there too. My fault.:p:p

That really shows how evil and sadistic chinese people can be. They could at least have the humanity to kill the thing first.

586495976[/snapback]

Perfect example. I just found this in another thread. Prejudice. Does it mean that he is racist? No...
