FaRSightxc2
In order for someone to function they must make decisions made upon their perceptions of people. These perceptions manifest themselvs in the form of steriotypes and you treat the person in different ways based upon this steriotype. This causes you to treat people differently and is a 'prejudice' towards them. Bascily, you have pre judged them in order to know how to treat them and you are therefore being prejudice. This means that everyone is prejudice. - FaRSightxc2 Yes I am high.

y0sh
I don't like the majority of African-Americans. That doesn't mean I'm a racist though, as I don't discriminate against them. I'm open-minded and I try to make friends with them (I do have a few but they're different), but the majority annoy me. I don't like them simply because they are lower class than I am, and yes I am quite classist if anything. I'm not comfortable with their morals, their religious tendencies, the food they eat, their lifestyle habits, their taste, their loud vocalization and their overall mentality (very suburban mentality). I also dislike the way they often bring out the past (slavery), and I know I should be empathetic towards that, but it gets on my nerves. However, I like africans; I like british-africans; I like black people in general - just not african-american. If were talking about class then that's another story. I'm a socio-economic snob. Sorry. 586495463[/snapback] Too true, sir. Edited September 11, 2005 by y0sh
remix17
Here's a small explanation of how we perceive strangers that we encounter in our life: Our impressions of other people are cognitive constructions based on various schemas, or sets of organized expectations about the way different attributes of people are connected. These so called schemas simplify the natural complexity of our world and are generally beneficial for humans. There are cases however when schemas lead to errors with social consequences. Social stereotypes result when schemas are simplified and applied to a whole group. So we may come to believe that two observations tend to occur together, even though they do not, such as the erroneous belief that all asians know karate, or other examples given in this thread. So you can call it prejudice if you wish but I prefer to stay away from such terms.

Please don't tell me that you think the only poor people on welfare in New Orleans are black. Please tell me that you are smart enough to realize that not only black people are on welfare. Please, Please, Please tell me you know that.
