What to Upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Im looking at upgrading my current computer rather than getting a new one, at least for 6 months. Here's my current system specs:

AOpen AX63Pro Motherboard

Pentium 3 500mhz (o'c to 565mhz)

512mb SDRAM

15GB 5400rpm Hard Drive

5x/24x DVD-ROM drive

12x/10x/32x CD-RW drive

Diamond Stealth III S540 32MB AGP

Sound Blaster Audigy MP3+

Altec Lansing ACS33 Speakers

Windows XP Pro

I was thinking of upgrading the processor, getttiing a bigger HD and get a Geforce4 TI4200. I mainly use the computer for internet, email, programming, and moderate Photoshop and gaming(i.e. strategy games like Age of Empires and The Sims, along with Flight Simulator 2002 every once and a while.) We also have multiple users set up, with my moms account mainly for email and light internet. Im also a big fan of customizing my desktop, like WindowsFX, DesktopX, and WindowBlinds so I want something with good hardware acceleration. Any ideas on what I could upgrade for around $500 USD (give or take $150.) Thanks!

OMFG, Get that Proc and Video Card OUT OF THERE QUICKLY!

BURN THEM

:D

Seriously, that's all I see to be upgraded. Other than that and my unnatural craving for HD space (I'm going 360gb this fall :D), you should be fine if you go with like an AMD 2000+ and a GF4...

Do you recommend getting get a new proc, or should I go ahead and buy a new mobo and processor? If I do buy a new mobo i'd want to stickw with intel.

The mobo, HDD and proc. Maybe DDR-SDRAM

And the graphics... get a Parhelia and three monitors, should be kickin arse for Flight sims... :)

Seriously

A P4 with DDR and the HD, the graphics... if you're really into gaming get a Ti4200, otherwise get a secondhand Geforce3 or the good range of GF2 (donno the name atm, if i remember i'll post...): much cheaper and good enough imho
