maybe this messenger will never work w/ XP because its meant for .NET server and requires those services that only .net has

It's not meant for just .NET server, it's meant for all OS's.

What should be happening:

The MSN server sends a challenge key which the user has to authenticate succesfully in order for the session to continue.

CHL 0 20881396011366812350

The client has to send the md5 equivalent of this string which is formed by appending this hash with the string "Q1P7W2E4J9R8U3S5".So the final string which will be sent to the server will be the md5 equivalent of 20881396011366812350Q1P7W2E4J9R8U3S5

So the client response would be something like this

QRY 18 msmsgs@msnmsgr.com 32

0212eaad0876afb8505859ca75d21a78

What is happening:

The server sends:

CHL 0 28250163202107525786

The client replies with:

QRY 13 TEST00578M1WM}RR 32

ba26ec3ccc444dba5ffb4751dfd6a40c540 13

The server does not like this, as pHaez said, the client should be sending "msmsgs@msnmsgr.com" not "TEST00578M1WM}RR", so it is all down to the invalid data the client is sending, which causes the server to disconnect you, as the server has no idea what "TEST00578M1WM}RR" means.

If there is a way of intercepting packets and changing them without using a bounce proxy, it would be possible to get around it. If this is not possible a bounce proxy could be the only way to go, this is where the client connects to the proxy and sends the data to it, the proxy changes any bit of the data that it likes before sending it on to the server, this, however requires that you have the bounce proxy program running all the time.

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with what MSN server you are connected to.

I'm still trying to locate where the TEST part of the string is located. I know it is in the msnmsgr.exe, but where is the question. I know this because i copied the msmsgs.exe to the MSN Messenger directory, and it connected. Ill also add that inside of the msnmsgr.exe the string i found is PhQRY .R@.u , However the msmsgs.exe's is PhQRY .RT.u, this is the QRY sent to the server, but when i modify that, when the server sends the CHL packet, the msnmsgr.exe just closes down completely.
