0 equinox_76
Your copy is probably a pre-release, I had this problem too and you can't work around it. You can find some info about it on technet
0 azazel-
Slipstream your copy of Office XP with the service pack. I won't post any links, because slipstreaming in this particular instance could be a work-around for certain situations. You fill in the blanks on that one. Just do a web search and you'll find directions on how.

0 Roger H. Veteran Posted July 11, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 11, 2002 well not really... MS created an Office version and then a month later redid some stuff. I can for sure tell you why. C:program filesmicrosoft officeoffice 10WINWORD.EXE was created on February 28th and that's why Office XP SP1 wont install. Right click the file and choose properties and you'll see. To get it to work you need to find the "March 7th" Version of Office XP. More than likely you didn't buy it and i don't know if i'm breaking the rules but unless you do an administrative install then Office XP SP1 wont install on that. 0 StOnD
I use administrative installs now because I have maxed out my key, I have changed my hardware enough that it won't activate anymore. I really dont want to deal with calling thoe F***heads about activating it. M$ is such a pain in the @$$. This is a legit copy, but I'm beginning to regret actually paying for it.
