Office 12 Interface Preview!

Recommended Posts

OK, I take it all back. I have just seen a video of this in action and it's brilliant. The pictures don't do this justice.

Whats up with Frontpage.  Why is it always left till last.  2003 was the first Frontpage upgrade worth getting, now they leave it without the ribbon interface, I bet even stupid crappy publisher gets the new look!!!

I'm not that impressed overall - some aspects are really cool, yet others are a bit lacking. I'll wait until it is actually released until I make any judgement, as previous versions of Office have always been great (even the interface changes with Office 2003).

I don't like the layout of the toolbars. They're trying to change everything around, but it'll just confuse the end users that aren't very tech savvy.

Agreed, watch the video linked off the front page before you judge this new layout. Imho this is a true step forward for Office and this will make Office better, no doubt.

The new UI looks very slick, and much more ergonomic, and more fruitful for finding those seemingly hidden features that people never use more accessable, making Word more than just a basic Word Processor.

I am excited to see the final.

Frontpage and Publisher are both absolutely useless for anyone in the Web Design, and DTP arena respectively. There are alternatives that completely knock these apps flying. Publisher would never get used in a professional printing environment I am sure!

The problem is it seems so random and there is no proper order about how the icons are laid out or even the sizes of the icons. It is just a complete mess at the moment, but I will reserve judgement because maybe Microsoft allow you to customise this portion or provide another theme/setting but then if it is like this stock, then I am steering clear.

I have work to do and I don't need to customise some icon panel for 2 hours getting it right.

I like it, it looks alot like vista style, so you would have to have vista to use this office, otherwise it would look out of place. well it would to me. Somone said on here, is this vista version. Are they making one for vista and one for XP?. Well if they did i would get the vista one.

I dont use office that much, at the moment. But I have in the passed, and I think office is the best software for geting the job done fast, and also looking pro at the same time.

Cant wait till this is out in the shops, torrent

Then again the amout that office costs in the UK, is it any wonder people look for torrent downloads.

There's a video on Channel 9 that goes over these very things. A lot of studying was done about the layout of icons and different sized and shaped icons are easier to visually recognize than uniform ones. In regards to the second part, Apple has been using very similar ideas: shapes of buttons should be different so they are easy to recognize.

The only reason the current Office doesnt seem random is because your used to using it. Once your used to using the new one you'll think its easy and makes sense too. If you actually look at the current version of Office its quite random, you just understand the random. :p
