^^ oh please, shut up and go back to your useless forum area.

Initially I thought it looked confusing, but after having watched the video over at Channel9 I must say I am very excited to try it out...having watched her demonstrate the new UI it really does make a lot of sense. Can't wait to try it out now.

far too cluttered and complicated.

UI's need to be simplified, not re-organised with glossy buttons.. wow.

lol exactly.

MS just doesn't know how to make things simplistic. When will they learn??

Radical :s

For me, Office has always been a referent for windows applications.

Now they are changing everything. Changes may be cool, as long as they're useful.

But everything looks really strange.

Outlook for example. The compose mail window looks too bloated.

I really dislike Aero. What will be the default non-aero visual style for windows vista home basic edition? Will it still be Luna?

Watching the video from channel9 on it, it actually looks a lot more simple than Office 2003, to me. They've also done user tests and apparently most people find it more simple as well. Of course, there is an initial learning curve, but using it for an hour or so and I'm sure you'd feel very comfortable with it.

All I request is the formatting palette from Office 2004 (Office:mac).

I could actually remove all toolbars and just use the palette and keyboard shortcuts for everything I wanted to do in Office. Can't get much more minimal than that!

I think Office 12 is shaping up nicely. Funny how in the presentation he was saying about certain features being hard to find, like reference and footnote. A lot of the faults in Office 2003 were actually fixed in 2004 imo, but of course the majority of Office users have never used 2004.

Looking at the screenshots it may see overly complicated, but I also watched the PDC and it seems very useful. I for one can not wait to get this. I know I don't use the full potential of Word and Excel seems easier to use from the video.

I wonder if it will require a 3d graphics card to run?

I watched that long video by that woman introducing Office 12, and I liked a lot of what I saw, but there was one thing I didn't like:

She said that the new version is about giving the end user as much power as possible

AND LATER she said

You will no longer be able to write plaintext email in Outlook--Word will be the only text editor available for that program.

These two statements seem to contradict each other. And frankly I have always preferred to use plaintext editing in Outlook, so this new change is a LOSS of functionality in my eyes. :pinch:

Well the current text editor in Outlook is Word too, and it supports plaintext. I don't see why the newer one doesn't.

Tools --> Options --> Mail Format --> Message Format

and you can select plaintext from the drop-down menu and disable Word loading at all when you use Outlook. This is faster and avoids the occasional crashes caused when shutting down Outlook and Word failing to shut down.

I really don't like people that complain about everything being bloated. There is no reason today to keep things simple because technology is moving forward. If you want simple, go find a old 486 computer and install Windows 95.
