I finally got around to watching that 41 minute preview video, and I must say that I am really impressed. Also, the woman that was showing it had very beautiful eyes.

i am usually one of the first that likes whatever microsoft makes, but this new design of office 12 makes me stop and think...now i voted that i "maybe" like it...and the only reason that i voted that way was because w/o actually sitting down and using the program for a while then i can't really make an accurate judgement call...though i would bet that once i can upgrade that i will love it...

To be honest, Microsoft shouldn't be making Office all eye candy.

We need it to be more and more user friendly, not more flashy.

It's there to do a job, not look good.

Eye Candy = Distracting.

Oh and yeah, Looks nice.

Office 12 should be coming out around the same time as Vista. As for the beta though, I've heard sometime this fall/winter

Welcome to the Microsoft Office System Technical Beta Nomination Page

Thank you for your interest in the Office 12 Technical Beta. We are now accepting nominations for the Microsoft Office "12" Technical Beta program. The Office "12" Technical Beta is currently scheduled to begin in the late Fall/early Winter time frame. Our goal is to have a well targeted group of testers willing to actively participate and provide useful feedback to our development team. Carefully consider your willingness and ability to test Microsoft Office "12" as your feedback will be critical to the success of our product. Regular and consistent participation throughout the program is expected.

If you are selected as a technical beta tester, you will be asked to:

? Download Office "12" software and related information

? Participate in private beta newsgroups

? Submit bug reports online

? Complete periodic surveys to share your input on various technical issues

Note: participation in the Office 12 Technical beta does not guarantee gratuity to all participants who are accepted. For example, copies of Office 12 final product are not automatically distributed to all participants at the end of the technical beta. This program is a volunteer effort by participants for the mutual benefit of you/your organization and the Microsoft Office team to enable feedback on your testing of ?real world? usage scenarios, and improvement of the final product quality for all Office users.

Next Steps

To sign up for the Office System Technical Beta, please fill out the Nomination Survey. Keep in mind, the Technical Beta is currently scheduled to begin in the late Fall/early Winter time frame. Therefore, allow up to 8 weeks after filling out the form to receive a response. If you are accepted, you will be sent a Welcome e-mail that will include additional information on the program and instructions for accessing the program support tools.

Thank you for your engagement,

The Office Team

  • 2 weeks later...

It looks fine - but I would rather Microsoft fix what is messed up rather then make it look pretty.

Secondly, I looked but havent found the answer to my question -

Will there be an upgrade from earlier office versions to V12 / Vista's version?

Thanks

GOD NO!!!

I think the "Slate" like UI is a great idea, but I think they should have just made it a tad bit simpler. A question to testers: is it faster than Office 11?
