im much more excited

it seems they have improved ALOT, the changes are not subtle. the whole os is evolving it seems

its much nicer to see it coming along together.

being always excited about longhorn i began to lose interest after we went so long without a build then beta 1 build came along and that was sort of a dissapointment. everything under the hood seems good but theres no change or motivation for change

with the new pdc videos i saw today they have managed to get everything into sort of a flow. everything is much smoother, there are products coming out (mainly projectM) thats absolutelly beautiful (which btw you can see the gray look, its not brushed but its gray and it fits very well with the os being black and all) www.microsoft.com/max and they finally brought back the sidebar. i wish it handt changed the clock and stuff i liked the old one but the new one is okay too. it seems bolder now and more polished. i no longer see the broken framerates or jaggies i was seeing before with alphas and the beta. its coming along nicelly. the icons have begun changing, the core of the os seems stable.

definite plus for this years PDC.

also when i first saw the screenshots for office12, i hadnt seen the pdckeynote or the channel 9 video yet, i went, OMG no they changed the UI. but then i did see its much more user friendly, the features are all there, presented in a new inovative way.

More Excited. I want to Vista Beta 2 and Office 12 Beta right now on my system. I think MS really did some work to make people's like easier. I can't wait. I hope we find out more info about both of these products.

Or he could be like me. ... Finding it hard to get excited about a software product which will be cool for a month and then simply be the thing I use to get my work done.

More interested in Vista than I was before, but more interested in Office 12 than vista.

Office 2003 is ok, but Office 2004 (A.K.A Office:mac)...well I find myself disabling all the toolbars and just using the Formatting Palette which I LOVE.

I suppose the big question is will the GUI have any major changes before RTM as there was always this talk that the UI was being held back till last minute, yet everything at the PDC seems to indicate that what we are looking at is the final ui and just needs a final spit and polish

Yeah, that's my concern. We were always told that nothing will be revealed in regards to Aero until the last minute to prevent copying. But all the websites, UI guidelines etc all seem to indicate that this style will be pretty damn close to what'll be shipping. I really, really hope it isn't, the transparency is such a massive distraction it's not funny. It's got potential but not as it stands, it's far, far too messy and inconsistent.

And after seeing Office 12 I'm very, very impressed with the ribbon layout, very cool. Not sure about the windows taking that tacky pseudo Vista look, looks tacky, especially after seeing it in action with Max.

Saying that, this just looks weird:

Not as much as I was over WindowsXP

Yes the change with me from Windows 98se to XP was g8. I am looking ford to Windows Vista though, and office 12. I think Vista will be a nice new look, and make it fun to work with Windows once more, XP is vary boring to me now.

I just wana say, at the end of the day Windows is just a OS, its what you do and run on it, that makes you happy. Like having grate games on there. Well also its what the OS can do. I for one am looking ford to a OS with better security.

Sure, Office 12 has an interesting layout, but feature-wise I can't see it being much more useful than Office 2003, with my basic Word docs and Excel sheets.

Vista on the other hand just got much more interesting especially with the Expression suite to aid in designing apps for the platform!!

*Finally* I can see myself create some cool apps with it.

But isn't that Project M thingy supposed to replace what we are seeing here in all the builds up till now? I mean this UI is supposed to just show us what they are thinking in terms of usability and not end up being what we see today?
