MrMB
I think that in essence a wysiwyg editor is a good idea but i wouldn't want to see notepad dissappear because it's useful to have a barebones simplistic text editor occasionally. I'll not use Vista if they get rid of Notepad :p

"Codename Longhorn/Vista project" this means Codename: Longhorn or Windows Vista which ever you want to call it.
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted September 13, 2005 Subscriber² Share Posted September 13, 2005 Sure, but then surely MS staff are told to now call it Vista and drop all reference to Longhorn? I just doubt the guy's validity. Seems a little TOO eager...
depakote
Firstly, I find it sort of suprising that many people here are under the illusion that a Microsoft Developer would act any different from a regular person. My personality on the computer and in real life is very fun, it's not like all employees for Microsoft are MIB agents.. Secondly, if someone in this thread were to downplay a Microsoft product in favor of say, "Open Source", it's not like I would flip out -- each to their own. Lastly, I'm not suprised by the response, if anyone here has ever seen the last part of The Odyssey would get the idea. Will the final UI be revolutionary or remain similar the current look (start menu, task bar etc)? We decided to put the sidebar back in. It doesn't hurt to use the sidebar now because of "better" support for programs in higher resolution. How standards complient will IE7 be? (i know you work in the vista area but..) I don't code Internet Explorer. From what I remember they are fixing a few glitches in css, and adding PNG alpha transparency support. Like How different Beta 2 will be from what we a seeing in PDC One thing I see on news websites all the time is people making guesses and estimates as to "what's going to be in" the next beta release, and when it's going to be. 90% of the time these estimates are wrong, who say's mine is going to be correct? People higher up find it extremely frustrating when people rush what we are trying to make a quality product and people critique Microsoft for "not having done enough". There is no answer to your question at this point. Will we be able to change the speed a certain effect occurs / plays? Eg, min / max windows. Yes, you will. How many default styles will be bundled with Vista? Not sure, we are prototyping a few very, very cool styles though. I promise you, no matter what, you'll be delighted by what you see. Will SP2's Security Center return in Vista? Something of the sort, yes. Lastly, What types of additional services will be running on boot in Vista; and with the MMC Snap-In still be available, or have an upgraded look / options? Your services will depend on which version you sign up for. We joke about the old MMC icons from time to time.. "we'll get to it, sooner or later" my colleagues tell me.
JustGeorge
Okay, I got a question. Since software activation has been a mind-blowing success, will we get an upgraded version in Vista? I demand to know how Microsoft intends to annoy its paying customer base! Also, how much more "bubble spam" will be in Vista? Should I look forward to never being permitted to turn off the "Desktop Cleanup Wizard" or "Take the Windows Tour" or "Register with .Net Passport"? LOL.... M118LR
Will Vista Home Basic have the Aero msstyle but not Glass ? I have also heard about an msstyle called Metal is that just an other name for Aero ?
riahc3
What specs were the PCs that we saw at PDC today running? How much % increase does MS more or less expect to see using USB thumsticks for super-prefetch? Is the rumor of 7 versions of Vista shipping most likely true or false? am7
Note: This is a cross-post of a comment I made earlier to a news entry.I am part of the development team of the actual core of Windows Codename Longhorn/Vista project, so far we have been working very hard on one front: the internet. Sure, we have a smaller group of developers which do work tirelessly on making our new product look good, but most of our manpower is devoted to server/internet stuff. In the very moment I am speaking there is a privately held conference in the PDC about whether XP will come packed with a new WYSIWYG replacement for Notepad/Wordpad which support tables/divs and the xhtml standard. Microsoft is curious on what the reaction of people is going to be to this. I'm not sure how my comment will be taken (probably in disbeleif, most of neowin is young teenagers) but there are actually some Microsoft employees (beside myself) which do visit this site. I am offering Neowin people a chance to ask some questions about what is going on in the inside. Note: it is not to my benefit to "prove" to you I am what I am, because I can get in trouble if the idea was secret (fired, even sued). If you do not beleive I am who I am, then just consider my answers to your questions "rumors" and try not to start a flame war (it's happend many times before, but I am giving this forum a chance). My rules are simple: Just ask questions about vista. What I can do is hint you in, and confirm guesses. =] 586520545[/snapback] pure comedy. bangbang023 Veteran Posted September 14, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2005 I didn't know MS had offices in Illinois...... thread closed edit: so they do have offices there. Not enough proof for my liking, though.
