akaladis Veteran Posted September 14, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2005 Well, not everyone can get to test Vista. They need people testing various stuff. If it was up to the user to select, everyone would pick Vista and other products would get 0 testing.
Syphonic
Yeah I've just been offered that too: This site provides a preview of the first version of Microsoft's Compute Cluster Solution for supercomputing. Please note, you must have 64-bit server hardware to participate in this beta. How appropriate for me...

TimRogers
How many people acutally have a 64 bit server? Do you get an invite email?
Syphonic
Nope it's in the list of "Available Programs" when i sign into connect. Wierd, because Im sure at some point MS assessed my hardware/computing environment, they should know that I dont have a 64bit supercomputer. jedilord
Yea...I've beta tested **** load of stuff for Microsoft...directx, office, windows, etc....I've been out of the game for a year or so....so I registered with Connect two months ago...not getting anything to test...and then this...While I did apply because I could use this...I was really geared towards the big betas. But t'is true...they can't have everyone testing those. Tisk tisk -Sean

Nocturna1
It's probably a mistake just like how there was another program in there for us to choose.
DaveLegg Developer Posted September 14, 2005 Developer Share Posted September 14, 2005 I was really geared towards the big betas. 586524864[/snapback] How is supercomputer cluster related software not big? I have it on available programs, but I'm not going to sign up as I dont have 1 64bit machine, let alone enough for a cluster to test this on :(
family guy
Heh... I got one too. An AMD based laptop is close enough to a 64bit supercomputer, right? ;)
DaveLegg Developer Posted September 14, 2005 Developer Share Posted September 14, 2005 Just wondering, what are you guys puting down as the application you intend to run on the cluster?

jak0bk
I'm using that beta on servers at work right now. We have 5 Windows Server 2003 R2 RC0 x64 servers clustered and it's sweet.
jedilord
You cluster to perform large task. Like, I'm decrypting information...you can do complex mathmatical calculations, prediction calculations, etc....all of which require some 'horse power' if you will. My 'big betas' term I threw around should have been 'mainstream betas'. I love them all... -Sean
Salilsp
i got the invite too, like most of ya its a shame i dont have a few x64 servers laying around... do you think an old p2 733mghrtz would work? :p

If you want Vista so bad. Then go get it for yourself in a torrent or something, and crash your computer trying to run it. You're not missing that much. By the way, Microsoft doesn't "want" you to test it, since it's available to almost everybody in the Available Programs page.
