anthony
Did a little bit of reading up on this, because I assumed it wasn't true. Seems half and half. United, UAL, and subsidaries filed for Chapter 11 in December 2002, it appears they are now getting out of it. Delta did just recently file for Chapter 11, information is available at Delta.com Delta Airlines Files for Chapter 11 Reorganization to Address Financial Challenges As for the other airways, I'll take a look, but don't panic just yet, Delta for instance has noticed an increase in sales since announing Chapter 11, more info @ Delta.com. gdodson
I'm glad, Northwest sucks. One of my neighbors is a mechanic for them and is now going to get laid off. I hope Southwest grows and extends, they are by far the best american air carrier in terms of safety.
anthony
Northwest Airlines Restructuring Northwest has voluntarily filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The bankruptcy process will enable Northwest to continue its transformation into a new-era carrier in keeping with the permanent changes that have affected the airline industry, such as rising labor costs and a doubling of fuel prices over the past two years.Customers can continue to book travel on Northwest Airlines with confidence. There will be no difference in your travel experience with Northwest - from ticketing and check-in to boarding, in-flight service and baggage claim. The WorldPerks program also remains unaffected. There will be no change to frequent flyer mileage accrual, redemption, or Elite benefits. Members will continue to earn and redeem miles according to the current WorldPerks program guidelines. And lastly, "On May 19, US Airways and America West announced intentions to merge in connection with US Airways? planned emergence from Chapter 11 this fall. " So yes, currently 4 American air-travel companies have either filed for Chapter 11 or for Chapter 11 protection and will be working out of debt within a few years. Shibby
Maybe it's worth nationalizing the air ways and just keep a small amounts of private companys which run. Like only have 4 airlines but offer everything.
Boffa Jones Veteran Posted September 18, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 18, 2005 We do have a national airline. Air Canada, but that doesn't stop private ones from jumping aboard.
