OrangeSoul
Compared to beta 1? or is it still too buggy.
Hurmoth
Well, the thing you have to remember is, it is a beta. I would not recommend replacing Windows XP with it until RC1+.

kinetix63 Veteran Posted September 14, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 14, 2005 Dude it's still a technical beta right now. From an end user's perspective there's no point in replacing XP with it right now because from a user POV things are probably gonna change a lot in builds to come. Unless you're a developer, there's precious little point right now.

yudi_lks
How's the memory usage?
Malisk
I've run it in VMware with 512 MB set aside for it, with 512 MB used by XP, and not really any bad disk swapping from what I could hear. Occasionally maybe, but that could also be due to VMware overhead stuff. So in comparison with XP, it seems pretty similar in that area to me? Maybe just slightly higher use, but not enough to enforce memory upgrades from what I can tell.
Commodore Max
Whatever you do, don't replace XP for it. It's a beta, stable I admit, but it's a beta.
BigGiantHead
If you want to, you can use it as an alternative. I don't think it's wise to use Vista as a primary OS, no matter how stable it might be.
Quarzimodo
I would recommend to run Windows Vista in a virtual pc enviroment such as VMWare or Virtual PC or on a second partition. Because of some bugs and driver incompatibility I would never replace Windows XP with Windows Vista until a release candidate is out. I've tested Windows Vista myself and found out that my printer and my webcam doesn't install correctly and that my Norton Software Pack (Internet Security 2005, SystemWorks 2005, PartitionMagic 8.0, Ghost 9.0) doesn't work. I will test Windows Vista again when the public beta 2 is available. Maybe I would get use of it then.

raskren
No way. None of your .NET compiled apps will run. You probably have some .Net apps you don't even know about.
Southern Patriot
ahhhh it's still downloading......................... for like a day now! the cable here sucks. 586539517[/snapback] That's what you get for relying on BitTorrent or other P2P for your warez. If you knew how to use Usenet, you would have had it in a matter of hours. :pirate:

905punk
I've had 5219 for a while now. (09/16 was when i installed) Its nice to try out and such - I dont notice it being as buggy, but it certainly is laggy. But thats probably cuz im using a Glass Efffects hack ona DX8.1 Card (GF4MX4000) Other then the lag and a few unsupported things its coming along nicely.
