I was talking to a friend of mine about computers and some how we got on the topic of: are computer people also musically inclined?

What I mean as "computer people" is one who messes with one daily and for many hours at a time. They are knowledgeable about computers, enjoys messing with computers, computers are their hobby, etc.

I dabble in programming, games and like to collect various programs

Also - I play the guitar and piano. Have written a few songs but mostly learn what I want. Right now I am in a Lindsey Buckingham groove (guitarist for Fleetwood Mac) The more I listen to Buckingham the more I like his style. I also dig Jim Croce along with many others ... oh yes and of course the guitar 'Gods': Hendrix, Stevie R Vaughn, etc etc.

So thats what my pole is about ... what instruments do you play.? Do you have a unique instrument that you can play?

I'm musically inclined - I play drums (for 3 years now). I'm avid in computers (program, script, repair, tweak, etc.) and I play drums every day. I like playing heavy metal/rock like Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Pantera, etc. and I enjoy it a ton. I also play modern stuff like Disturbed, RCHP, Skindred, and Green Day, as a little bit of punk too. :)

I play guitar mainly, but I can play drums, bass, mandolin, etc. I can make just about any instrument sound somewhat musical, but I my main thing is the guitar. I love the guitar I think because it is such an expressive instrument.

I'm also quite the computer nerd. I've worked on a few PHP projects and done a little gtk+ programming. I'm now getting into qt and KDE stuff. I'm not a programmer, I stick mostly to themes, styles and adding little things into programs I use.

So, I would think that your conclusion is right. The bad thing about being able to do almost anything you set your mind to, is figuring out what you like to do them most.

You can check out my bands site here http://2sdw.com. The site runs e107, and I was on the dev team for a little while.

  • 2 weeks later...

Having been in the music scene (classical mind you) for more than 10 years, usually good musicians come in 2 flavours: the total literary person who does english and history and all that stuff and CANNOT stand the sight of numbers or anything science related, and the guys who are also quite good at sciences and maths and are more inclined towards that. I'm the second personally.
