beautiful curved sidebar!

Recommended Posts

The clock, rss ticker and the picture viewer look fine, but the rest of them look like crap.

And the curved sidebar, not good in my book.

Looks like Sidebar is turned off by default. Anyone know how to turn it on?

I still think it's a waste of space without any decent functionality. Systray could handle this sort of thing so much better IMO.

What is the point of having your photos so small and tiny there?

For example if you hover the clock in the system tray then it would display the analogue clock...

If you hovered an icon in the sys tray it would show the rss feeds.

Mail? Have a systray notifier...

Media player widget thing? Ugly and bloated. Keep the buttons tiny and on the taskbar like the current version of WMP in mini mode, but have the buttons blend into the taskbar better.

Recycle bin? What was wrong with the desktop icon?

Search bar: tray icon like the current desktop search.

:( I really liked the old sidebar in 4074. That actually looked like a part of the OS.

Not this one that looks like its just spyware thats installed itself on your computer because you looked at porn without a firewall... :p

I think sidebar itself looks beautiful, but the widgets attached to it are just... yuck.

As other pointed out, search bar looks out of place, and that media controller one looks hideous as well.

However, with properly designed and more creative and functional widgets, I'm sure sidebar will become a great eye-candy that improves productivity.

Very much so.

The mail icon with the number of unread messages in the circle looks very familiar as well

yeah, it is funny that docks for xp are new....but they really are so 3 years ago.

and if they are going to do it, they should do it REALLY well, since they've had all this time.

actually, i've never really seen a curved bar before, and i think it looks pretty nice. although a curve may not be practical, if you had a window along the edge, you'd be wasting space one way or the other.

What do you mean by "dock."

Windows has had the Taskbar for years. The Apple OS X "dock" is just a taskbar + quicklaunch with a different visual design (and, in my opinion, is far less useful).

The Sidebar is a dock of sorts, but not like the OS X dock. Basically, it's a place to dock Gadgets. But Gadgets can exist on your Windows desktop (certain gadgets can exist on Start.com), or on devices. Oh, and as www.microsoftgadgets.com has revealed (and I was wondering why it wasn't said at the PDC)... Gadgets will not be Vista-only. Although I believe the Sidebar will be.

microsoft are just catchin up how long has mac os x had a dock and dashboard ???

They've had a Dashboard for what... 5 months now? How long after the Sidebar first appeared did they implement that... 4 years? Something like that?

As I said above, I don't see what this has to do with the OS X Dock.
