Uninstalling IE!

Recommended Posts

I kinda hate IE and so devised a way to get rid of it

Uninstalling IE is pretty much a simple process. :)

First, make sure to delete all the files here

C:\windows\system32\dllcache
C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

You can delete all of them (the files), or just the ones that are stored in IE's folder (at program files). Chose whatever you want.

Better delete them all, since basically those two folders simply contain an useless cache, that windows uses when you remove OS bundled applications, like IE, or the games, etc... to restore them.

Now head to

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

And delete everything in there, except the folder Connection Wizard (though Im not sure if its used at all for broadband users, but there is nothing wrong with leaving that folder though).

Thats it, now probably windows will start crying, asking for the installation CD or something like that which is just a simple way of saying "You win. You have defeated me oh mighty human being". Just click cancel or whatever.

At this point, IE is gone.

Notice though, some applications will still use some form of IE that's encapsulated in dynamic libraries, but nothing to worry about, it natural. The real IE application will be gone forever.

P.s: Better Switch on the System Restore or take a back-up or be ready to install windows again although I am DAMN sure that u dnt want to do these.

Agreed. I wouldn't like to uninstall IE because, as MasterC said, there are a few siteswhich only work with IE. Also, and this is just me, IE is integrated into windows so much that i wouldn't uninstall it incase something else which depends on it, broke.
