What MP3 encoder is used?

Question

I downloaded the MP3 encoding pack from Bink's Windows XP site and I was wondering what encoder it uses.

Is there a way to get WMP8 to use the LAME encoder?

Heh, by the title I thought you wanted to know how to tell which encoder is used on mp3's. I would've suggested EncSpot, heh, oh well, something for you to know. :)

oh yea, Fedr0: whatever happened to your kitty kat pic? I adored that little thing

You mean you got that pack to work?

Never worked for me. So I wrote my own that lets you choose the radium or lame codec. :)

Thanks username. I take it that you haven't found anybody that knows of a way to change it from joint stereo to full stereo?

Yashiro, will you post the one you wrote?

Nomis_nehc, thanks for the info! I knew that program was out there, but I forgot the name.

better yet, just get the latest version of CDex and use the latest alt-standard presets in LAME using it's built in on-the-fly encoding (no more temp .wav files on your hard disk as the cd is directly converted to mp3 before it hits your Harddisk).

for those who don't know what CDex is or where to get it, please go back to your Google 101 class.

I have CDex installed on my system, but wanted to be able to use the LAME encoder with WMP8 also.

What do you do with the LAME ACM? I found the 2-2-2002 version and have no clue as to what to do with it?

Are any of the WMP MP3 encoders that Microsoft links to any better than the one from Binks Windows XP site?

Where does one find EncSpot and how does it work? Does it show like LAME and the rate used?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned DBPowerAmp yet. I've had nothing but good experience with it, it's free, and you can choose your codec (my preference is for Lame CBR 224kbit).

Cheers,

AJC
