AIM Passwords

Question

I feel really stupid for asking this, but I've forgot my AIM password, and I was wondering if it was stored anywhere on the local computer? I've got it set to auto login each time, so I imagine it's somewhere, and I want to format and move to Trillian again (don't know why I ever went back to AIM really) -- but can't since I won't be able to get back into AIM.

It is stored in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > America Online > AOL Instant Messenger > Current Version > Users > YOUR SCREEN NAME > Login then there will be a key called Password 1

Okay I dont know if AIM changed their enycryption techniques, or the extra encryption is done by aim + But if it still has the encryption yy: at the beggining it is very very week, easy to crack. and every letter after that is your password but encrypted. Now to figure out the password this is what your going to have to do in the password box on the aim logon screen your going to have to type in one letter at a time for your password. Example:

Screen name: DeviantFusion

Password: a

then press sign on. it will then cache it in the registy, so the A will have an encryption value of example: UU, because for each one letter or number there is a two letter encryption. Also "a" and "A" are not the same thing for the encryption "a" my be UU and "A" might be ZE

Once you find out each letter and number enycryption (upper and lowercase) go to your encrpted password for the screen name's password you forgot and juss match up the encryption values to the letters, and viola you found your password.

Note: i dont know if this is how aol still encrypts their passwords but check it out it might be. either that or its AIM + the does the extra encrypting.

Also, i had made my own list of the encrypted values, but i can not find it at this time... ill look around for it but.. i doubt i still have it.

hopefully that works out for you.
