redfish
I posted this on channel9; I thought people on this board would be interested; As people have seen from builds of Vista which have been released so far, even though the Windows interface has a lot of nice new touches added to it, there are not much revolutionary changes. Which is fair enough, if there was not much to change for the better. But I think there are definite directions where the interface can be improved. Of course, I have no idea what the final build of Vista will look like, but its relatively close to having its features locked, and I wanted to show some of my suggestions on how it can be changed before that happens. I put up a few of my ideas with illustrations on my webspace. I talk about why Windows should have the native ability to group windows into tabs, how the taskbar could be changed, and the Start menu. The last part is inspired from a post by Ryan Dawson on longhornblogs.com, but changed from what his conception was. I have a few other ideas I haven't put up yet, and I'll put up any more I think of, or which someone else comes up with and inspires me with and which I think works well. http://brianshapiro.q45.org/concepts/ui.htm Please take a look, and note that these are only models that would probably have to be changed if they were ever implemented into the OS, and in some ways are only prototypes where the concept might need to change a bit to be implemented. The Start menu model I made I don't think should have a definite titlebar, for instance, but I didn't take the time to edit it differently. brian.shapiro
Angel Blue01
Nice ideas. I hate tabs and like MDI menus. Vertical space is important to me and users who insist on running at 800x600. I like the Start menu model. If it up to me there would be no Start menu. The dektop would be an activity center. I'm afraid about using up screen space. But very nice idea.
