Cats. Not that SOME dogs aren't awesome, but cats arent nearly as obnoxious as a dog can be, imo.

and Im not just saying that, we had a dog when we were kids, she was great, but a cat that gets underfoot doesnt trip you as easily as a dog. They dont get nearly as stinky when they get old, either :p.

Yeah ok..... I voted for cats as i got a cat but i do want a dog in the future. Both animals can be good or bad. Maybe a cat scared you! :p

My cat, Moe.   He's incredibly loyal, friendly, playful, and loving - 18 lbs of lovable fur. :)

awww!

I love cats...but sadly, I can't have any coz in Islam, a person has to be "clean" before he prays. So technically, I'll have to take a shower everytime my pet licks me to be clean...and we have to pray 5 times a day!...also if I touched its pee/faeces, I'd have to take a shower.

I'm willing to take the bourdon, but my grandmother isn't!

Definately cats. They're more laid-back (once out of the kitten stage), quieter, and require less care.

Indeed. I believe that cats have lower overall maintenance cost. Although rabbits can beat them all. You can leave them in the garden for months without food or water.
Ahem... blind people with guide dogs or officials with dogs who help save lifes/advance missions would beg to differ.

That's exactly my problem with dogs. They're too smart. I'm afraid they're gonna run my household one day, as I seem to become dumber by the day...

Also, cats tend to stay cute even after their kitten stage. Can't say the same about dogs, I don't like the looks of about 90% of adult dogs. Except for beagles & huskies. I'd love to have one each, and see what breed I'm gonna get if they ever mate...
