canadian397
Hey, So I think you guys all know that Windows Xp Media Center Edition needs special specs (tv tuners, etc) and you can't just walk into Best Buy and pick up the MCE Operating System on the shelf but what's it going to be like for Vista? Will you be able to buy Windows Vista Home Premium Edition on shelf or need a brand new computer with Media Center specifc devices? - Barret
Commodore Max
I strongly believe it will also need going through an OEM or a computer corporation. MCE needs very special hardware and drivers for it. Doubtful.
berger
No, MCE functionality will just be an option, if you dont have the hardware, those things won't work. Simple. I think. :)

The only CD keys distributed at the PDC were for Ultimate Edition. Ultimate Edition, like Professional Enterprise Edition, supports domains; Home Premium Edition does not. ebc_wl
You can purchase MCE 2005 as an OEM product from retailers today (without purchasing a MCE PC). As for Vista editions, most likely Home Premium will be sold in most retail outlets, with Media Center functionality working as it does today if you were to install Media Center on a regular PC (all Media Center functionality working except for TV and FM tuner).
