go here:

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/printers/index.html

Look at the printers under the All Purpose heading. I have the S520 and its an amazing printer, though I'm not sure if its within your budget? If it is, I'd recommend it. Its relatively inexpensive and its print quality is excellent. (text looks like laser quality, pictures can scale up to photo quality) it can do all of this on normal paper too :)

edit: oh and its fast! quiet too. theres absolutely no need to go higher than the S520, because the "higher" models have the same features. the only thing you're paying more for is faster printing.. but seriously.. 14 pages per minute (black/text) is enough. trust me its fast..

Thanks spyder..

U've been a great help...

PS: Singapore is selling that model for $309....

The problem i have on BJC-1000SP is that, whenever i didn't use the printer for long time(2 weeks) the whole print cartridge will DRY up!!! Just imagine...i had already spent $300 on replacing print cartridge alone....

U think the S520 will have the same problem? Coz i gathered that its CANON hardware

Thats a great question but one that I can't completely answer. I can tell you that the Ink hasn't dried up on my S520... and I haven't used in it in a couple weeks.

If you have a bad taste in your mouth for Canon stuff now..then take a look at Lexmark or Epson models.

I had a HP 720c and it was garbage. It was noisy and slow, streaked the ink when it printed and did exactly what you described..the ink cartridge dried up when I didn't use it.

Have a read of this and this.

See what you think, and decide based on what you need to use it for. There are many printers on offer. The prices stated are in US Dollars, but i am sure you will be able to find them in your currency.

If you need more info then let me know...

:)

thanks for the links manroweb..they were a good read! Nice to see that I chose well when I picked the Canon S520..seems to me to have come out on top in the review on the first link. Definately the speed demon out of the 4 compared when coming to printing in colour..which is what I need it for :)

No Problem Spyder. The Canon S520 is a highly rated printer. I have the S900, which i think is fantastic. I also have a HP 970cxi, but i much prefer the Canon.

ive just bought in the past couple of days an Epson c70 for ?102 and i have to say the print quality is absolutely amazing. it prints relatively fast and has sep colour cartridges which makes it cheaper to run. only problems i would have with it is its a little on the large size, but if youve got room go get this one. oh and id also reccomend some epson photo quality paper to go with it

I too loathe the Canon mysterious inktank dry-up quirk. I had been using a BJC 2000 and I had entire color tanks dry up on me without being used at all!

I agree with the others regarding Lexmark. They may have a slightly higher cost per page, but they are less expensive up front and if you use draft mode for all of your general everyday printing and only high quality for graphic pages, you should see an acceptable lifespan in your tanks. I just bought a Z55 which is very similar to the Z65, except not quite as fast and the DPI is 3600x1200 rather than the higher DPI in the Z65. The Z55 is considerably cheaper though running for around $130 retail here in the US. I got mine for $110.

One thing I love about the Lexmark Z series printers and many other newer printers is the on screen ink tank level indicator. It is a MUST to have for any printer.

Well...i read abt it, it is a colour printer..... so won't it be a waste to use a colour printer to print Black? i usually does 70% of black printing....

If you print 70% of black maybe you should buy a laser printer? Lexmark E210 for about $149USD
