jp10558
There's some major buzz on the new Opera forums (which are very difficult to navigate right now) about a major overhaul of Opera's rendering engine coming out... We're thinking 8.5 coming out, with many rendering bugs fixed, likely the new IMAP backend, and even more UI work for a simpler default UI. I can't wait lol. Opera is a bitch to customise to my liking at first startup though, thats why I like this news.

Source? 586543793 Here's the post here. For maybe a month or so people have been seeing 9.0 in the user agent string of their web statistics. I can't really see them releasing a final version without any beta testing.

biorK
I highly doubt it would be a 9.0 release, they always beta tests them. But it sounds like great things to come and I'll download it the minute it's released :)
Denis W. Veteran Posted September 18, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 18, 2005 Isn't it a bit suspicious that they're planning an update around the timeframe of the release of Firefox 1.5? And what about 8.1 (the version with Bittorrent)? I guess that was scrapped.

Firefox and Opera are competing for something much more valuable than money: mindshare (and, well, Opera wants your money too:pp) Edited September 18, 2005 by joekr

I have a feeling they did this all on purpose to try to lure more people into purchasing Opera. This release is WAY to close to the 10th anniversary key giveaway... And what about 8.1 (the version with Bittorrent)? I guess that was scrapped. 586544444 Nope? Version 8.10 Build 7685 Is the build i'm running, it includes bittorrent (it's a beta, tho) Opera is surely readying its Firefox-killer, i read it some months ago on Opera forum<< extension support, easier UI customization 586544470 I honestly don't see how operas UI customization can get any easier, maybe it's because i'm using to it but theres only a few clicks and keystrokes i need to use to get opera the way i like it from a fresh install. I'm not sure i'd be too keen on extensions, i don't see how i could want anything more in opera tbh, and if they added some kind of extension support the firefox fanboys wouldn't stop complaining, even though they don't mind when firefox copies features from opera
