bugeja
Have been trying to install Vista 5219 on my sata drive (using the sil3112 controller) but had no luck as the driver won't install and Vista didn't automatically recognize the HDD. tried with a few different drivers but no luck. had the idea of starting off with the beta1dvd and then after loading the sil3112 drivers switching the dvd to 5219. [but the key is different so i don't know what will happen] what do u think?

I installed it on my NForce3 250 system (x64 version) just fine, but not on RAID. In fact, when I first got ahold of Beta 1, I, uh, kinda accidentally wiped out my RAID array   , so I decided to just go unstriped. It's working fine on my non-RAID system with the Nvidia SATA Controller, YMMV.

Intel controllers work like this also. Most other SATA controllers such as Silicon Image and HighPoint do not work like this and therefore the standard BIOS has no idea what they are. Because the standard BIOS sees the SATA on an NVIDIA or Intel as an IDE controller, any OS will be fine installing to it since IDE is supported by everything. For the other controllers, you have to install drivers ... which Vista seems to have issues with. When I tried to install Vista on my other box with a Silicon Image controller I couldn't get it to load the drivers either. I just hooked up an IDE drive temporarily. Max Veteran Posted September 20, 2005 Veteran Share Posted September 20, 2005 Yup, I have that same controller. Doesn't work. Didn't even work with an IDE drive.

Thanks for that clarification. Great post! I would guess that would mean that he would have to wait for Silicon Image to provide Vista SATA drivers, which may take some time. That's a bummer! FWIW, I used to have a Nforce2 board with that same Sil3112 controller, and I personally had difficulties every time I reinstalled Windows XP on it because of the driver disk seeming to not want to work right. It would eventually work, but it took 5-6 times trying each time. To Max, which IDE Controller do you have? Seems kind of strange that it wouldn't work with a regular IDE drive. IIRC, the 3112 is ONLY for SATA and provides no IDE control.
bugeja
thanks for your clarifications. regarding my system, which i forgot to mention, its an nforce2 board with a single sata hdd. never had issued with winxp. beta1 worked fine with the drivers i have. 5219 doesn't want to know about it. AQUaDeX
The Load Driver mechanism (for loading SATA/RAID/WeirdStorageTechnologies drivers during Windows setup) is broken in 5219, it is known issue and there is no workaround at of this moment.
