Acrylic/Sparkle/Quartz release/betas?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any information was given regarding the release of these products?

Are they going to have betas or CTP's?

Are they being released ahead of Vista for early developer adoption?

Was any timeframes regarding these revealed at all, or were they just announced?

As mentioned, Acrylic CTP is available now. Based on the MS FAQs, the suite will be available sometime early 2006, and apparently CTPs will also be available. No time/date though... I really want to try Quartz!

I'm mostly interested in Sparkle myself :)

Yes, I heard of the Acrylic one before.. Forgot to mention it. It's mostly the other two I'm wondering about. Kind of strange they only released a preview of that one. The demo'ed Sparkle version looked pretty usable to me. ;)

Acrylic wasnt written by MS - it was a product by Creature House called Expression 3. MS bought the company a while back, and did a version upgrade... and presto, you have Acrylic :)

Not a bad product actually, although certainly not a competitor to Adobe Illustrator - least of all the interface, which currently is horrible :)

Especially when it's to make hardware accelerated 2D and/or 3D Avalon apps :D

It's not like I'd just like to see how it is for fun, but because I find it quite tedious to hack XAML, and given how much freedom Avalon gives you, I really want some sort of UI. Sure, for the gritty details I can imagine XAML can be useful, but to lay down the foundation and get the look down, it would be nice to have something more visual.

Its now called Microsoft Expression (nice of them to keep the old name!) and its 'preview' website is live now.

There's an interesting demo movie to watch the the FAQ annouces the app's are being released 2006 with CTP's of Sparkle and Quartz in the next three months.
