Pharos
wow i modified some registry keys and glass is now working on my geforce 4 mx 32mb O_O I get all the animations including the new flip, the preview in the taskbar..it doesnt run slow, it runs OK.. FLIP 3D is the only thing that does not work Doesn't it use pixel shaders? I'm confused lol Well here's a screenshot to go with the post :D EDIT: Flip 3d now works =] (and very fast) i think this is amazing, for a 32mb video card lol Edited September 20, 2005 by PharosBR
Rudy
crazy that you got it to run on 32mb of video memory lol
Long
I believe your card isn't an MX version, which means it has pixel shaders. Geforce4 cards do have pixel shaders, just not the MX range.

Rob2687
I'm pretty sure the Geforce4 Go series are based on the MX cards
905punk
I happen to have a GeForce 4 MX4000 128mb and Vista 5219 Installed (and activated) - If you could post details on how you did it that would be great! kthx
BLEHINATOR!
my understanding is that you cant even do glass with a geforce 4. You need a shader model 2.0 compliant card. shader 2.0 compliance doesnt start until geforce fx series on the nvidia range or radeon 9600 and higher on the ati range. I *think* thats right. I'm assuming it would be possible to force direct x to use a software rasterizer for the glass effects on a lower than a sm2.0 card, but it would be highly cpu dependant and run like arse. EDIT: i just looked a little closer at the glass screenshot and thats not the true glass. Thats simple trancparancy without the realtime blurring. Thats more like psuedo glass. Nothing that needs shaders. But not the whole glass experiance.

If you take a closer look at the parts which *look* like they've been "blurred", they haven't at all. Its just alpha (i think)..

Pharos
yeah, it doesnt look blurred at all, but i think it's still nice since now i can user aero glass with my notebook (that cant be upgraded to a better video card) :) it also looks like they're improving "aero express", i couldnt make it work with previous versions of vista

E t h a n
It'd be nice if MS actually tried to reduce the requirements of Vista. I'd like to run it with all those effects on my laptop (nVidia G-force FX 32MB)!
srizo
tried it and didnt like it because after i logged off and on the icons started to flicker whenever the mouse was pointed to it. The window started to flicker. so i disabled it and i guess i will just wait till NV releases updated version of their LDDM drivers.
