icecaveman
These are NOT the glass effects. These are Alpha transparacy effects and they can be done without Pixel Shaders. If you look closer you see there is no blur beneath the glass at all.

Kaidiir
sweet!! I have a Nvidia FX Go5100 in my old Toshiba laptop and this glass effect works! It's a little choppy, the UI process crashes and restarts again, but it's workable. Animations are a little choppy too, but with 32MB I'm not surprised. Thanks for posting this reg hack! ev0|
If you've actually seen what the real glass effect looks like on a certified working and activated copy of Vista, you will know this is far from it. It only looks similar in the screenshots.
Post-It Note
I've gotten Glass to work, with blur, on a GF3 TI200. It was pretty slow though, but it worked. It was on the older builds though, not the latest.
905punk
I checked and it turns out my card is a DX7 Card - Dont know where i got DX 8.1 from. I think i was reading my card specs from a review site and it said it supported DX8.1 Hardware level.

Brandon Live Veteran Posted February 6, 2006 Veteran Share Posted February 6, 2006 You need a Geforce FX series (like a 5200 or better) in order to get the full Glass experience (which includes pixel-shaded windows). With a Geforce 4 MX you should be able to run the DWM, but without the pixel-shaded windows. Instead you'll get regular old per-pixel alphablending (like WindowBlinds 5). The big problem there is that the transparent windows are distracting to most people.
ViperSnake
Thanks for the information, I too have a Gforce 4 MX (even though the sticker on the front only says Gforce4, but System Information displays MX)! Can't wait for Vista! :)
ozgeek
So you are saying that my 6600GT card could support the fullest of the Vista Experience? If that's true then all I need more of is RAM (only 512 MB at the moment, need 1 GB or at least 2GB).
