theunknown
well ive applied all the RegKeys and yes they did enable the glass effect with the Supplied 6600GT drivers (The Supplimental's). However using these drivers i get a "Failed Creating the Direct3D Device" error when i launch chess or any other game. Before applying these keys and the original sup drivers i was using the Nvidia LDDM Drivers and altho from boot things were extremely lagged all i needed to do was hit CTR + ALT + DELETE and "Start TaskManager" after that all the lag was gone (that sounds crazy, but it worked). Anyways, yes this works however my experience tell me to use the LDDM drivers supplied by Nvidia. Atleast until such a time people can work out that Direct3D issue. -The Unknown
HalfLing
These are my settings (I did a restart after creating the registry info) Still no glass? Any help? Thanks, Jake-
Inertia
This whole thread is misleading.? The machine check only works on 5048.? It doesn't do anything on the post Beta 1 builds.? I don't know what "stock" drivers are either. 586556076 No , you are wrong, I have an nvidia 6800u card, I instlaled the vista suplimentry driver pack which is included with 5219, and rebooted, then i set the machien check dword to 0 (it never existed, nor did the key) , rebooted and Glass effect was enabled. so the machien check dword does make a difference to nvidia cards which use the suplimentry "stock" driver in a post Beta 1 Build

I don't know what "stock" drivers are either. The theme in post Beta 1 and Beta 1 is Aero Express. We won't see the full Aero Glass until beta 2. So your description is wrong. The Glass key turns DWM on or off and does the same thing as Ctrl+Shift+F9. You are seeing Aero Express with the Glass key "on" and a plain old Xp like theme called "Metal" with Glass "off." This key does nothing in 5219. 586556076 Yes this is wrong ive got a hand full of ppl get it to work with my advice.
Inertia
The suplementary drivers are Xp drivers so there are no LDDM drivers in there.? Did you install the new LDDM drivers from NVIDIA? 586556268 No, there are LDDM drivers for nvidia in the suplimentry driver pack, i did not need to install nvidia`s Alpha driver 75.

raskren
Yes this is wrong ive got a hand full of ppl get it to work with my advice. 586556261 There is no machine check in Beta 1, guy. You take a DX9 card and LDDM drivers and you get Glass. End of story. You posted these reg keys as if they're the latest thing you uncovered in this build. They've been around since WinHEC 2005 and you didn't post a source. Some Nvidia cards don't have out of the box drivers (6xxx and 7xxx series) and some Ati cards with both AGP and PCIe variants don't work. However, installing an updated driver from the respective vendor will fix the problem. If you don't have a Dx9 card or LDDM drivers you won't get glass and no registry hacks will fix that. Straight from the horse's mouth: http://blogs.msdn.com/kamvedbrat/archive/2.../30/445346.aspx If you install Windows Vista Beta 1 on a computer with one of the listed parts, and the listed driver, you will see Glass! However if you take an nvidia card, and install the suplimentry driver pack, you do not get glass, unless you set machinecheck to 0 , and then you do. How do I know this ? I did it, i didnt read it somewhere!

Then I made the registry keys and now I have the Glass effect and Aero! Thanks !

NetRyder
Yeah, you can do some fun stuff with reg keys. I have Glass enabled on a laptop with a 16MB Mobility Radeon 7500. I had to use the ForceSoftwareD3D value, of course, so it does have a noticeable performance hit, but it works.

Sound.Phucker
So I tried what you said. I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and re-installed the Supplemental Drivers. I then entered the keys and I still dont see anything. Here's a pic. What's wrong?

Eli
Unfortunately, it did not work on my computer. I turned off the machine check, ended the uxss.exe and my computer screen went haywire for about a minute or two, then reverted back to what it was like before but without a background. I tried logging off and logging back in but the glass effects did not take place :(
Eli
It's too late to edit my last post so I had to make a new one :( I got it to work. I found out that my resolution (1440xsomething) was only in 16bit mode while Glass only works in 32Bit mode. Changed it to one down and BAM! Works :D Now to get the start meny transparent...... Any ideas on how to enable glass again? 586714331 im guessing that MS figured out how keep ppl with low end video cards to keep them from using the WinFX advantages, umm u tryed me registry edits and ended uxxs.exe and restarted it right, if not ill have to figure it how, but i dont have 5231 installed so itll be hard for me to help but ill see what i can do.
