Wierd IE problem ... help? please?

Question

I am having this annoying graphics problem with IE6. Graphics in a web page are corrupted. You can see in this capture from deviantArt.

ieprob.jpg

This only affects IE. I can browse using Opera just fine. Other programs don't seem to be affected.

I have tried changing video drivers (several different ones), changing Monitor refresh rate, new monitor .inf file, disabling proggies I thought might be causing it (windowblinds, windowsFX).

Anyone got any ideas? I would hate to have to reinstall now that I have my system exactly as I want it.

CPU: AMD Athlon 1.2GHz

Mainboard: MSI KT3Ultra

Video Card: ATI Radeon 7500

Windows XP, IE6

Thanks to anyone who can offer a suggestion ... very much appreciated.

not sure it will help you but...

I had a problem like this with an athlon, the cpu was defective. and in some case, i hade corruption when using ie to look at pictures, or winamp when listening to music in mmx enhanced mode (when the option was available.. still ?!)

Try to swap your cpu, it may have to do with mmx, or 3dnow being corrupted in the cpu.

Thanks Ken,

I hope that's not it ... odd that it's only IE though? If that was the problem, wouldn't I notice it elsewhere? Not a problem in gaming either.

quiet strange... but in fact i learnt this way that Ie, and Windows use a lot of kind of mmx, or 3dnow function. Why only in ie, i think because it (IE) uses some kind of algorythms that refers to a particular buggy thing in your CPU...

i am not specialist, but i have seen these thing twice, and they involved the cpu each time.

The first, an athlon 600 (back to the old days of slot a :) ) was very buggy, mpeg video were nice one some players and awfull with media player, avis were all corrupted. The second had only the preview in Windows ME corrupted. Swapping Cpu with another solved the problem.

I apologie for my bad english (strange english ?!) i am French.

Hey Ken,

You're English is fine ...

This is only something that just happened ... so if it is the CPU, it's not buggy ... but failing in some way.

Oh well ... CPU's aren't that expensive;-)

Hey ... thanks Ken,

Posted this publicly in case anyone else has this problem with IE measles.

It turned out to be the CPU ... a simple swap and a new CPU and the measles are gone.

Thanks again!
