Beta 2: What to expect

Recommended Posts

Things you will see on the beta 2 release for sure:

- New theme

- New Effects fully implemented

- Final explorer UI (Beta 2 is our UI freeze point)

Things you might see by beta 2:

- New (totally revamped) media player (AMAZING visual effects when compared to wmp9)

- The first beta of Office

- AOE III on shelves (sorry, I love that game)

Things you won't see complete yet:

- Movie Maker

- Server features (server may be delayed, it looks like)

- Microsoft's online music service

Don't expect to run visuals on beta 2 with anything less than 256mb of video ram either.. Vista beta 2 will actually prevent you from doing this.

I'll post some new scoop later..

Only thing that would make me upgrade would be if I built a new pc around the time it came out, then I would CONSIDER it, then again, I'd probably just install XP again :|

I?m sorry but that's just not true, the UX and Shell teams are spending all there time optimising right now (and doing a good job by the sounds of it) so why would they put the spec UP?;);)

the fact that you only speak about cosmetic changes apart from office means you are talking **** straight out of your ass. and you lost any credibility you had by putting the age of empires 3 thing in there

Agreed about the credibility of this poster - which is why I questioned it.

Focus on games and cosmetic changes, rather than the underlying things that Vista is about.

This guy is so NOT a dev!

I STILL don't understand why people are worked up about the UI, IT CAN BE CHANGED PEOPLE. Everyone should be looking forward to such things like the hot-patching, the new networking stack, having to input a password when admin rights a required, the new driver model and even smaller things like the data transfer rate (in KB or MB/sec) when cutting or copying something. I would rather Microsoft take time it doing some major core OS work then just what people want in a UI.

PS: I read something about Microsoft doing something with the registry a LONG time ago are they still going to do something about it?

Don't forget the scheduled file I/O, which will finally give different programs different I/O priorities. No longer will installing programs/copying files completely slow down the computer :). I've been waiting for this feature for years and years...

But i wonder, why people are so sure that there will be a new UI. I have read in many places that what we saw at PDC its pretty much final.. Has somebody actually saw something different to glass??

Finally someon with some sense. The UI is NOT the big feature of Vista! It's cosmetic an won't run on my card anyhow.

I am a lot more interested in the more important features.

i think the glass thing will pretty much stay the same but they will probably change the startbutton and some things in windows and internet explorer

I think they will change it a fair bit more, just look at XP when it was at Beta 1 compared to Beta 2.
