altezza Veteran Posted July 14, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 14, 2002 When you guys playing 3D games, did you enable the anti aliasing feature on your 3D card? If I enabled it, the graphic become much smoother but the game movement becomes slower. I'm using the GF4 MX graphic card, so if I go for GF4 Ti4600 and I turn on the anti aliasing I still get the slower game movement? But I know it's going to be faster than GF4 MX, but how many FPS you reckon if I turn on the anti aliasing on GF4 Ti4600? On my GF4 MX I got around 35-40 FPS when playing RTCW with anti aliasing enabled.

Elliot B.
AA really slow down my games (AthlonXP 1500, 256 DDR-RAM, GeForce III Ti 200). Anyway, if you run the game at 1024x768 (17''+ monitor), then most of the jaggies will already disappear!
StOnD
Anti Aliasing is only any good when you have a supercomputer and a crappy monitor that doesn't look good above 640x480 or 800x600. It helps eliminate the pixely look at low-res. If you can run at 1024x768 and above then AA isn't necessary.
Redmak Administrators Posted July 14, 2002 Administrators Share Posted July 14, 2002 I use 2x fsaa and notice hardly any slowdowns. (In Quake3 and SoF2 at 1024x768) specs: PIII-866 - GF4mx I used to have a Geforce 256 and was unable to use fsaa with that card but now I can. But I agree that it's not really necesary with resolutions like 1024x768. Esp in quake where you're constantly in movement (no time to see the jagged edges). It does improve quality in sof2 tho
nXP_151 Veteran Posted July 14, 2002 Veteran Share Posted July 14, 2002 I have GeForce 2 MX and I turn Anti Aliasing, it's got no affect on Frame rates, even I maximize everything, FYI, I do that in Flight Simulator 2002 and it's perhaps the most complicated game ever. Try updating your driver, I have mine on Factory driver and tweaked, plus I am going to try Detonator 5, just got it but haven't install.
