Deleting Windows.old folder

Recommended Posts

I installed build 5219 over the previous vista beta, and it moved the old beta into a folder called Windows.old. I can't delete this folder for some strange permission problems. Tried fixing the security settings, but there's no security tab when I get properties on this folder. I boot into XP, which sits on C: and Vista is on D:, and tried to delete that folder also, but still no luck, it just errors out. Any ideas on how to delete this windows.old folder or change its security settings?

Also, the D:\build folder and the installrepository folder, are these needed or can they be deleted? These folders are huge with thousands of files. I think it also errors out when trying to delete these, like with windows.old.

Another strange thing is when I first installed the 5219 beta, I told it to install on D:\ because XP is on C:\, and it did install Vista on D:\, but also wiped out everything on C:\, XP was gone. All that remains were the boot files. This did not happen with the first Vista beta. I had to reinstall XP again, good thing this is a test machine and no important files were lost.
