naap51stang
A few weeks ago, both cooling fans inside my pull out hard drive cage FAILED....and my computer started freaking out (locking up)......when I pulled the drive, to swap it with the backup drive, it was so hot, I couldn't touch it, and a bead of sweat fell off my forehead and hit the metal cover and sizzled. Setting it aside and praying that it wasn't trashed out, I popped in the backup. After it cooled down, I found both cheap fans frozen. Fearing another meltdown, I started searching for an alternative, found this one: http://www.romtecusa.com/product/product.htm It's like an "AB" switch for your hard drives. No software, etc.....(they have a version II, but I have the older version) Now my drives are mounted in the computer with a fan on the front of the case blowing air over them, as it was originally designed! The trios box, prevents you from accidently switching the drives when it's powered up. You power your computer completely off, push one of the three buttons, power it back up and you are on a different drive. One of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas...... slick, and for me, I can rest a lot easier knowing that my drives won't cook do to a failed cheap fan inside a hard drive pullout case. :alien:
