Matt A. Tobin
Hey hey.. I sent Microsoft a letter with a suggestion.. more like what i think they should do insted of haveing 10 diffrent editioons or w/e but it still ends up with 6 or so.. here is the text ... please not the priceing section is based on current priceing of windows... Hello, I am wanting to suggest a better approach to the Windows Vista Product Edition plan.. I realize that information on vista and plans will change before that 2006 due date however i feel it may be a good idea to suggest how you should go about defining your product editions. Because It seems to be and a number of Microsoft enthusiasts that the current scheme for branding is a bit clumsy and a bit overkill.. So a group of us decided a potentially better way to go about it :) We have planed out the strategy as follows. On the home user side: Vista Home Edition ? same as current XP home edition Vista Home Entertainment Edition ? home edition with the media center compatibility and applications And on the business user side: Vista Professional Edition ? same as current XP pro edition Vista Enterprise Edition ? pro with more productivity tools and optimized for computers that may not use top of the line graphics cards or the newest hardware but still comparable to requirements of current XP pro Vista Tablet PC Edition ? pro with tablet pc compatibility and applications Finally: Vista Premium edition ? professional status with tablet pc media center and enterprise productivity tools basically everything that is in the various editions of windows will be bundled in this edition We feel this is a more logical way of defining editions of windows. Also we have devised a pricing plan that is based on the current windows product editions pricing Price Edition $119 Home $179 Home Entertainment $219 Professional $259 Enterprise $279 Tablet PC $319 Premium We feel that this is reasonable and based on the current price structure, it should be considered. We also know its your company and you will do as you wish but us as loyal customers feel we should help yo:)out a bit :) Your comments? or am i just a wishfull tub of lard... Angel Blue01
Are these prices for upgrade or complete?
Ruciz
personally, cut those prices in half and its a deal. for $319 I can almost get a computer that will run vista, that doubles the price for a working system. MS got to learn if people are to buy their product that only lasts for 3 years, they arn't going to spend $350 on it.
Mr. Dee
Those editions are more confusing than Microsofts. The point remains only three editions will be available in retail. 1. Start Edition - Only indeveloping countries sold with new PC's. $30 to $40 2. Home Basic - Probably OEM only, similar Office Basic 2003 sold on new PC's for homes that only have 1 computer, as a standard entry level solution $120 - $130 3. Home Premium - For families with multiple PC's who also want to watch and store movies on the PC, listen to music and do more with Parental Controls for better management of multiple PC's in the home. $200 4. Professional Standard - Business oriented operating system with Tablet PC functionality for mobile users and workstations $250 5. Small Business - Includes all the functionality of Professional for SMBs, with online offerings for maintenance and step up programs to on Premium services from Microsoft. This will be sold only through OEM's in 5 packs at probably around $600 or bundled with SMB Servers. 6. Enterprise - You won't see this anywhere in retail, only sold under SA/Volume License, so if you want it you probably gonna have to buy an Open License, which means 5 licenses and up, the probably won't even make it available under OL and just push it under Enterprise Agreement instead which means its forecast over a 3 year payment instead, which means you pay probably $60,000 to get it with other VL Software. 7. Ultimate - Hard to say, but I believe it cost about $300 since it will be replacing Professional as the premium offering. Out of that 7, I only see three in retail, Home Premium, Professional Standard and Ultimate.
