I'm using a toshiba portege 320 ct and heres the story: My dad does an office cleaning job at nite. he cleans 2 tiny west end offices for an advertising company and an engineering company, every now and again they chuck away some cool stuff, like good IT books, or salvageable keyboards, they threw out a nokia 3210 a while ago :D and thats all good, a while ago they threw out the toshiba portege, my dad found it wierd and asked em if theyd mind if he took it. they said cool, it wasnt used in ages cos the charger had been messed up and it actuallt belonged to an ex-senior staff. dad brang it home and i thought "luvly". ok its only a 233mmx, but hey thats good enough for me to type up ne reports on the tube on the way to uni :D problem is its got a bios password in place :( any1 have any ideas on how to get passed it or how to clear the cmos on a laptop? the tosh website says registered dealers etc can remove the password on production of proof of purchase.....how the hell do i explain that it was a thrown away laptop:disappoin any suugestions would be great guys :D thanks in advance
Attyk
Companie charge around $200 US for that. If you live in the UK, you are looking around 95 pounds. Aside from that route...I dont think you will be able to accomplish it yourself. Why not get your dad to ask the guy that threw it out?
Dessimat0r
What? Just open it up and take the BIOS battery out for ages! Remove the normal laptop battery too...
Geronimo
Dessimat0r is right. Sometimes there is a jumper that you can reset also to clear the bios
