modems and line noise

Recommended Posts

I have this really cheap win modem in my computer which has done rather well for the cost up until about a month ago. I use to get nothing short of a 49k connection to my ISP (usually 53.2k connection).

Now I'm lucky if I get a 33k (it has been as low as 19k) connection during the day. But during the evening I sometimes can still get a 49k + connection. I have access to two ISPs and have the same problem with both. So this leads me to believe that my problem is line noise.

So my question is: will a better modem (like a US robotics or rather, anything but this win modem) work with the line noise better?

Could it be another problem?

This is very frusterating. I would get DSL if it were available in my area but QWEST sucks.

Any input is appreciated.

depends on how bad the line noise is...........I used to work for QWEST so i concure.............I would call qwest and have them do a trouble ticket on line noise, couldn't hurt.
