ramesees
I've tried disabling the speaker volume on my modem but when I dial up its still there Is there a way to disable it completely (but with the option to bring it back if desired)? Some registry tweak, or addendum to the modem properties? Any and all help appreciated

sailgreg
In the modem control panel there should be a volume for it, and in the volume control of XP, you can change or mute it :) In AOL, it is really hard to disable, because it makes it the loudest possable every time you dial, but that is why AOL sucks :)

munki
When you create a dial up internet account in XP, right click it and go to properties. On the General tab it should list your modem and right below it you should see a "Configure" tab. Click that and uncheck the Enable Modem Speaker setting. Hope this helps.:)
