AMD Processors...

Recommended Posts

Which would you guys recommend, the AMD Athlon XP 2000+ with the Palomino core, or the AMD Athlon XP 2200+ with the Thouroughbred core?

I would like comparisons of these two processors against eachother, and along with other processors from AMD and Intel. Links to reviews and benchmarks are perfectly acceptable and help out a lot.

Thanks!

there is no heat problem with the 2200+

it use a .13 microns (Thouroughbred) technologie and it run cooler than .18 microns (palomino).

2000+ = 1,66ghz @ .18microns

2200+ = 1,8ghz @ .13microns

so the bets choice is 2200+ but it's a little bit more expensive.

/me wait for the barton core !

Yes, but what about performance? Does the Palomino core outdo the Thouroughbred core in that department, or does the new T-bred pull out ahead?

Please excuse the unintentional rhyming. :p

Also, look here for some information on the 2200+. It would seem to be slow by the first image you see, a snail crawling on it, but who knows. Anyone have any experience with both of these processors?

the cores are the exact same, the tbreds are just smaller, same performance, produce less heat, cheaper to make, can reach higher speeds

You should be fast buying a Palomino core, cuz all the older AthlonXP CPUs with the old core will be replaced by the new core, as my retailer only sells T-Breds now, now there are AthlonXP 1800+ T-Bred CPUs. :devious: :devious:

Yeh if u are buying an OEM processor then you will have to as they wont come with a cooler anyway, there are many that are good just make sure they are suitable for the speed of your processor

you have a palomino, they dont make any other core for that speed, yet. supposedly there are t-bred's in japan that are 2000+ but i have not heard about them anywhere else.
there is no heat problem with the 2200+

from what i understand there is more of a heat problem and yes there is differences. the reasoning it runs hotter although it uses less voltage and runs on the new core is that the cooling surface was cut in half. so that means its harder to cool. so yes the t-bred does have some issues in cooling. but if you go with the retail version and dont overclock it then youll be fine.

if you really want to get the best value buy a 1600+ then unlock and overclock a whole lot. you can get the same performance as a whole lot more expensive processors. and i have heard some people getting up to around 1700mhz with that on stock speed.

I heard there was a heat problem with the 2200+ because it ran at a higher voltage than the other T-Bred's. 2200+ runs at 1.65 volts while the slower ones run at 1.5 so therefore the 2200+ will be alot hotter.

i'd go for the palimo.. you won't ever really need the extra speed at the higher premium. The 2000+ sounds really nice. 129$ on pricewatch.

also for amny mobo's you have to have a bios update for being able to use te t-breds (hope i said it right)

i'm using the stock AMD fan (yeah i'm retail) and the FSB is oced from 122 to 147 and i have no heat issues what so ever. my geforce 3 is also oced to 240/540.. almost ti500 speeds i think. I'm running all stock and i reach about 50C max on a full load on my cpus...

i'm pretty sure if i have artic silver 3 and two volcano 7+'s i'll be in the low 40's.. but for stock this is pretty good.. :p

edit: guess i didn't make it clear why i need two those fans.. i'm a dual 1800+ err.. now 1900+ :p

FSB is stock at 133mhz on most boards.. 139mhz on some. so 147 isn't much.. I can o/c mine to 149 safely using the retail AMD fan without a problem, and no change in temp. but yer a bit of AS3 and a volcano 7+ or the NEW 9+'s would be sweet..

147 is quite a lot for a server board to me.. and i'm quite happy because i can't go higher w/o losing system stability.. and u can go to 149 w/o more heat? wow thats awesome!
