nomis_nehc
what you mean by up to speed? like up to speed for your capable speed or compare to market's other model with similar spec?
Elliot B.
Well, I've heard 8x CD-RW drives should take about 12 - 15 minutes to do a CD. I was just wondering whether that's true...
ramesees
Hi It all depends on how much you'll be burning, and how long you're prepared to wait My burner is a Sony CD-RW CRX140E and is also 8x4x32 I assume that buring 600 - 700Mb of data will take the same amount of time irregardless of the format its in, but on my burner it takes around 10 - 12 minutes to burn 700 Megs on generic 80min CD-Rs If the times for each data format are different, then disregard what ive just said, as its mostly backup CDs and MP3 (music) cds that I'd be burning, not DivX Hope this helps
username
i have a 4X, kinda a pain if i am doing backup or making a SVCD / VCD set, gets the job done though, if I had extra money it would be the last thing i would upgrade

If I had extra money, it would be the last thing I would upgrade I'm hopefully getting a 24x CD-RW within 3 weeks. Just seeing whether my drive I've had for 1.5 years has been slow without me knowing!

And mmm, I don't think I would be burning with my 24x, haha. but really, if you are a casual burner, 24x is cool.
fizik3
umm, i am perfectly content with my 12x, bud. ho ho ho, that **** about the 24x sounds umm kind of arrogant to me, lets brag about all the **** we got, mmk?
liar2
I love my 24x burner. It's really more than fast enough. 5 minutes to burn a cd (advertised to burn a cd in less than 4 minutes.) is fast enough. I highly recommend a 24x but a 16x is just as good.

This is because the drive isn't burning @ 40X during the entire CD creation process. :s Most drives use a method called Zone CLV. All Plextor drives function is this manner. Information from Plextor's page: http://www.plextor.com/english/news/powerec.html ;)

BxBoy
I only got a 4x and it takes about 15-16mins. And since that is twice as fast, it should be half the time.. (technically speaking).
